On May 14, businessman Nguyen Manh Duy announced the completion of a double climbing leg, conquering Everest (8,849m) and Lhotse (8,516m) - the world's highest and fourth highest peaks (both in the Himalayas). This information was also confirmed by two travel companies, Adventure 14 Summit and 8K Expedition (specializing in organizing Himalayan mountaineering groups).

According to the list of High Adventure Expeditions, by the end of December 2024, there were 4 Vietnamese people conquering Mount Everest. According to unofficial statistics, Nguyen Manh Duy is the 5th Vietnamese person to reach the highest peak in the world.
Nguyen Manh Duy's journey to conquer this double challenge lasted 40 days, of which the time to reach the top of Everest took up the majority. Less than 48 hours after conquering the "roof of the world", the Vietnamese climber reached the top of Lhotse.
The Everest-Lhotse dual route is also a popular route for many climbers. Also on May 14, at least nine other people completed this challenging stage.
Normally, after conquering Mount Everest, climbing teams will move south to the stations at an altitude of 5,000-6,000m and then continue to the top of Lhotse. The fastest travel time from Mount Everest to Lhotse has ever been recorded as 25 hours.
At the end of 2024, Nguyen Manh Duy conquered the world's 8th highest peak Manaslu (8,163m). This event attracted attention and controversy when this climber made the journey straight to the top of the mountain without performing altitude acclimatization.
