DTO - Saving energy when using electrical appliances in the kitchen for cooking is a simple issue but many women easily "forget". Below are some simple but very effective tips, helping housewives to save maximum energy when using electrical appliances in the kitchen, while having a warm family meal.

If financially possible, consumers should choose a refrigerator with many compartments (doors) to preserve food well and save electricity.

Choosing and using refrigerators and freezers properly

Refrigerators and freezers are indispensable electrical appliances in every household. Because the device operates continuously, refrigerators consume more electricity than washing machines, televisions, dryers, etc. The electricity cost for this device accounts for 16 - 22% of the total annual electricity bill of a family. Therefore, choosing and using refrigerators and freezers properly helps reduce energy consumption and save costs.

Accordingly, to save electricity, when choosing a refrigerator - freezer, consumers need to choose a device with an energy label (from 1 to 5 stars). In which, the 5-star label is considered to have the most economical level of energy consumption and use. If you have the financial means, you should choose a refrigerator with many compartments (many doors) to preserve food, both ensuring food quality and reducing cold loss when opening the refrigerator to get food. In addition, you should choose a refrigerator that uses inverter technology to control the cooling compressor and uses R600a refrigerant to save about 25 - 30% of electricity and protect the environment.

When using the device, it is necessary to check the gaskets on the refrigerator doors. In case the gasket is loose, the refrigerator's cooling is poor, the refrigerator must work harder, causing a waste of electricity. Opening and closing the refrigerator must be reasonable, do not leave the refrigerator door open for too long, outside air entering the refrigerator will cause the device to consume more electricity. In addition, clean the condenser 1-2 times/year by using a soft brush, dry cloth to remove dirt; set the temperature of the compartments to the right cold level (set at level 3 - 4 is enough), avoid setting it at the coldest level; do not put hot food in the refrigerator to avoid increasing the temperature and humidity in the refrigerator, causing more energy consumption...

Choose a rice cooker with a multi-star energy label to save electricity.

Avoid wasting electricity when using rice cookers

Rice cookers are one of the appliances used daily in every family. Therefore, in addition to choosing a good quality pot, it must also be suitable for the needs of the family to avoid wasting electricity when using.

Here are some tips that will help save electricity very effectively when using a rice cooker such as: cook rice about 30 - 45 minutes before meal time, do not cook rice too long before meal time; regularly clean the parts of the rice cooker such as: pot, pot body, heating tray, steam valve to increase heat transfer efficiency, helping to reduce power consumption; soak rice before cooking with warm or hot water will help save up to 30% of power consumption; avoid using the rice warming mode for a long time; do not share the same outlet with high-power electrical appliances to prevent heat generation on the wire and on the power outlet.

Save electricity with electric kettle

Saving time and being safe with the automatic shut-off feature when the water boils, the electric kettle is an indispensable device in every family. However, the electric kettle consumes a lot of electricity because of its large capacity of 600 - 1,500W. An electric kettle with a capacity of 3.6 liters usually consumes about 9.78kWh of electricity/month to boil water once a day.

During use, to increase the heating capacity of the electric kettle, diligently clean off any residue or rust after a period of use. When using an electric kettle, you should also pay attention: when boiling water, close the lid tightly so that the water boils quickly and the power will automatically turn off when the temperature reaches 100oC; do not boil water continuously with the electric kettle as this will cause the heating plate to overheat, which can cause fire or explosion, which is dangerous for the user; avoid boiling water in the fan's airflow; boil enough to save electricity...

For induction cookers, when cooking, you should choose pots with high magnetic properties to limit the waste of electricity.

Save electricity when using induction cooker

Induction cookers are devices that consume nearly 11% of the average monthly electricity consumption in households. Compared to gas stoves, induction cookers can heat pots, pans and food much faster. This is the type of stove that many families choose to use today because of the conveniences that the device brings.

To save energy effectively when using an induction cooker, you need to pay attention to some usage methods such as: using a power cord that can withstand the load of the induction cooker's capacity, using a separate plug and socket. During the cooking process, you should minimize the spillage of water or food onto the stove; set the induction cooker at a moderate heat mode to ensure safety and save electricity; do not use the induction cooker at a high heat mode, limit sudden increases and decreases in temperature. For portable induction cookers, after cooking on the induction cooker, you should not immediately unplug the power outlet because when the cooker is turned off, the cooling fan is still running; after cooking, you should wait for the cooker to cool completely before cleaning.

Save electricity when using the oven properly

Ovens have become a familiar item in the kitchen of housewives with a variety of types, designs and rich features. Normally, an electric oven operates 1 hour/day and 15 days/month, the electric oven will consume 22.5kWh of electricity per month.

To save energy, in addition to choosing an oven with a capacity and power suitable for the needs of the family, when using the oven, you need to pay attention to a number of issues. In particular, always preheat the oven before putting food in to help the food cook evenly and faster; should bake with ceramic and glass molds because these are two materials that conduct heat very well, the temperature in contact with the food will be faster, reducing cooking time; check the gasket on the oven door to ensure the oven door is well insulated; limit closing tightly, opening the oven door many times; clean the oven regularly to keep the device working well, avoid burnt food residue affecting the heat dissipation ability of the product.

Ensure dishwasher cycles

Dishwashers are one of the household appliances that urban housewives are interested in choosing and are gradually becoming popular in Vietnam. Currently, there are many brands of dishwashers on the market. For conventional dishwashers, on average, one wash will cost 1.4 - 1.6kWh of electricity and 15 - 17 liters of water. For machines with energy-saving washing functions, on average, one wash will cost about 1,039kWh of electricity and 11 liters of water.

When choosing a dishwasher, consumers need to choose a machine with a capacity suitable for the needs of each family; pay attention to the convenient functions of the device such as: quick wash, antibacterial wash, drying function, timer, self-softening water function.

In addition, always wash dishes with a full cycle, limit washing half-load cycles, wash separately many times a day to save electricity and water; only use salt and specialized detergent according to the manufacturer's instructions; adjust the washing temperature to about 50oC (average hot temperature) to clean dishes with the least energy consumption; regularly clean the dishwasher for efficient operation...
