A few days ago, Professor Furuta Motoo was one of four scientists whose work was awarded the Bao Son Prize in 2024 for research rich in practical and humanistic values.

He won the prize in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities with his work "History of ethnic policies of Vietnamese communists".

Professor Furuta Motoo is also the first foreign scientist to receive the Bao Son Award. He has spent more than 50 years researching the history, national policies and revolutionary cause of Vietnam. His research is considered to have great academic value and influence, creating deep sympathy among Japanese scientists and politicians, contributing to promoting the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

With this achievement, he received a cash reward worth 120,000 USD, equivalent to 3.1 billion VND.

Previously, in 2020, Professor Furuta Motoo also spent 2 million yen from the Daido Seimei Prize - a prestigious award of the Japanese Government - to support the first batch of students majoring in Japanese Studies.

“Vietnam is my ‘first love’ and has been my faithful love for half a century. It can be said that I am a foreign scientist ‘Made in Vietnam’”, Professor Furuta Motoo shared.

Throughout his tenure as principal at Vietnam-Japan University, Professor Furuta has consistently contributed, especially dedicating most of his awards and book royalties to award scholarships to students (total accumulated value of nearly 700 million VND). Professor Furuta also connected and called for sponsorship from Japanese businessmen and intellectuals for the school's students, such as the Azabu Fund (1.3 million Japanese yen and 155 million VND)...

At school, the “Professor Furuta” scholarship is always a valuable reward for excellent students and students with especially difficult circumstances. Every year, the scholarship fund named after Professor Furuta is a great and practical source of encouragement for students on the path of pursuing knowledge.

Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo is currently the President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association and the President of the Japan Association for Vietnam Studies. He is also the author of the book “Ho Chi Minh - National Liberation and Renovation” (1996), which is highly appreciated by Japanese researchers.
