U22 Malaysia easily won 4-1 against U22 Laos in the opening match of SEA Games 33 , thereby temporarily leading Group B. Evaluating the victory over U22 Laos, coach Nafuzi Zain said: "I want to congratulate and thank all the U22 Malaysia players. They showed a great performance. The 4-1 victory is a good result.
It was not easy when we were 1-0 down from the first minutes, that put more pressure on the team. But U22 Malaysia did not give up, continued to fight and this result makes me really satisfied."

“We had a bit of difficulty in the first half, but in the second half when we scored, our confidence increased and we were lucky to win. Now we need to prepare for a very difficult match against Vietnam at the end of the group stage,” added the captain of the U22 Malaysia team.
With both U22 Vietnam and U22 Malaysia having 3 points, the upcoming match between the two teams (December 11) is considered the "final" of Group B. U22 Malaysia has the advantage of only needing a draw to win the group and a ticket to the semi-finals, but coach Nafuzi Zain wants his players to do more.

“Going into the SEA Games, we did not have a full squad of 23 players. Some clubs did not release players because the Super League was still going on. Our captain joined the team on the day of the match and Malaysia only had 18 players for the match against U22 Laos. But even though we were missing key players, I still believed in the players we had.
I watched U22 Vietnam play against U22 Laos. They are very strong, fast and skillful. They are a mature team and are definitely a candidate for the championship. We will try our best to win. U22 Malaysia cannot lose, and must prepare better for that match," Coach Nafuzi Zain concluded.
