In recent days, many tourists coming to Bac Ninh have worn the traditional costumes of Quan Ho to take photos. The exploitation of traditional cultural elements in costumes continues to create positive effects. This trend has been and is reawakening traditional culture.
The trend of wearing makeup and traditional costumes of Quan Ho sisters when traveling to Bac Ninh has become a trend. Thanks to that, the livelihood of the traditional craft community has become more bustling. Services such as renting costumes, instructing on how to dress properly, taking photos in the typical space of the Northern countryside, or even organizing sewing, embroidery, and weaving classes can all become attractive tourism products.
Previously, craft villages such as Nha Xa silk village (Moc Nam, Duy Tien, Ha Nam ), Ma Chau silk village (Quang Nam)... took advantage of the opportunity to promote their products in a new and very effective way. It can be said that the spread of MVs like "Bac Bling" contributed significantly to arousing the love for traditional cultural values, especially costumes.
As traditional costumes become a part of modern life, artisans not only retain old values but also have the opportunity to create and innovate to suit today's tastes. This helps traditional crafts not be "framed" in the past but continue to develop according to the pace of contemporary life, both preserving their identity and creating a stable source of income for the craft community.
Regarding this issue, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education said that, in fact, traditional costumes always have a special attraction. They are not only beautiful clothes, but also the crystallization of history, national cultural identity and the spirit of each region. When an MV can arouse the public's curiosity and love for such costumes, it is a sign that the trend of returning to traditional values is becoming increasingly clear.
In addition to Bac Ninh and Quan Ho four-flap dress, many other localities can also take advantage of this to develop tourism. From Hue Ao Dai, Southern Ao Ba Ba to brocade costumes of ethnic minorities in the mountains... all can become attractive highlights, contributing to bringing indigenous culture closer to tourists.
According to Mr. Bui Hoai Son, for this trend to not just stop at a fad but truly become a sustainable development direction, there needs to be proper investment. Preserving the traditional spirit while still having appropriate innovations to meet modern tastes is important. Designers, artisans and tourism workers need to coordinate to make traditional costumes not only a part of the past, but also a source of pride in contemporary life.
However, besides the opportunities, the premise for the development of traditional craft villages also poses many challenges. Because the problem between the livelihood of the traditional craft community and the preservation of actual cultural values still exists many difficulties.
According to experts, to solve this problem, the most important thing is to turn the heat of an artistic product into a driving force to develop a sustainable cultural economic ecosystem.
In addition, localities need to have policies to support and invest in developing craft villages and artisans. Many traditional occupations are gradually disappearing not only because of the lack of workers, but also because there is no longer a consumer market. When there is public interest through music or film products, localities need to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in craft villages, from improving production conditions, improving skills to collaborating with designers and brands to create products that are both traditional and suitable for modern life.
Associate Professor, Dr. Luu Hong Minh, a sociologist, said that the indispensable factor to connect livelihoods and promote traditional cultural values is education and communication to deepen awareness of cultural values.
“The explosion of an MV can lead to a trend, but for that trend to become a part of life, knowledge and awareness need to be nurtured. Community education programs, communication campaigns about cultural heritage, the participation of schools, museums, and creative groups will help traditional values not only become a nostalgia, but also become a source of pride and motivation for the development of the young generation,” Mr. Minh emphasized.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son affirmed that livelihood from traditional values is not only an economic problem, but also a story of cultural preservation, creativity and sustainable development. When traditional products are not just souvenirs but become symbols of cultural identity, widely applied in life, that is when traditional values are truly restored and spread most strongly.
