Binh Thuan province has such a place that always attracts those who have set foot there – that is Cu Lao Cau Island (Hon Cau). This small island belongs to Phuoc The commune, Tuy Phong district, and is only about 5 nautical miles from the mainland. The Hon Cau Marine Reserve has a total area of 12,500 hectares, of which 12,360 hectares are sea area and 140 hectares are land area of Hon Cau Island.
According to an official from the Hon Cau Marine Reserve, the northern coastal area of Tuy Phong district boasts rich natural landscapes and high biodiversity, with Cu Lao Cau Island having its own unique "attraction," notable for its many irresistible beautiful sights.
Tourists can take a tourist boat (round-trip ticket price on the same day is 300,000 VND/person), departing from Thanh Minh Temple, near Lien Huong port, and reach the island in about 20 minutes.
To fully explore the beauty, in about 10 minutes, the boat can circle the island, allowing visitors to admire the overall magnificent natural landscape. This includes coral reefs, the harbor, Bai Tien Beach, Hang En Cave, and Hon Chim Island, a sea turtle breeding ground.
It also features gently sloping beaches, backed by massive, sharply shaped, and distinctive boulders. These destinations are ideal "check-in" spots for those who love exploration and nature when they set foot on the island.
According to authorities, numerous biodiversity studies and assessments have been conducted since the 1990s, leading to proposals for establishing marine protected areas. Accordingly, in 2010, the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to establish the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area, a provincial-level species and habitat conservation area. The Hon Cau Marine Protected Area is divided into four functional zones: the core zone, the buffer zone of the core zone, the ecological restoration zone, and the development zone.
In particular, on June 28, 2023, the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, led by Comrade Duong Van An - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation - visited and surveyed Cu Lao Cau Island, making impressive assessments.
Through this, the provincial leaders hope that the small island will become increasingly green, clean, and beautiful, serving both tourism and ensuring national defense, security, work, and daily life for officers, soldiers, and employees on the island, as well as supporting fishermen.
At the same time, the Hon Cau Marine Reserve needs to preserve its existing natural values so that Cu Lao Cau becomes a unique, diverse, and sustainably developed tourist destination…
