Arsenal needed a win to regain top spot when they hosted West Ham in round 19 of the Premier League. However, defensive lapses and missed chances caused the Emirates team to unexpectedly lose 0-2.

According to Whoscored data, Arsenal's ball possession rate in this match was nearly 3 times higher than their opponents. They had 77 touches in the opponent's penalty area, launched 30 shots, of which 8 were on target but did not score once.

Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola's brilliance kept West Ham a clean sheet. Arsenal tried everything with clear chances but could not beat the visiting French goalkeeper.

On the other hand, West Ham only had 6 shots, 3 on target but scored 2 goals. Arsenal's defensive lapses caused the home team to have trouble. Oleksandr Zinchenko continued to be the name criticized.

The Ukrainian defender failed to link up well with Gabriel Magalhaes in a straightforward defensive situation, allowing Tomas Soucek to open the scoring. This was also a controversial move as the camera angles could not make it clear whether the ball was out of play or not. The referee ruled it a valid goal for West Ham.

The visitors' second goal came from a set-piece - Arsenal's forte. Konstantinos Mavropanos, a former defender at the Emirates, headed the ball into the net. Arsenal lost 0-2 at home.

Result: Arsenal 0-2 West Ham
