Accordingly, at 5:00 a.m. the same day, the units were present at the scene to prepare for the rescue work, with the coordination of 9 specialized vehicles from Tan Cang Company, fire police and other units. During the implementation, the teams deployed cables, buoys and necessary equipment to connect the two ships, including the Panamanian container ship and the Hong Kong (China) ship. At about 7:45 a.m. the same day, the ships were successfully separated, including the use of tugboat thrust and specialized equipment suitable for the strongest water current to ensure safety and efficiency.
After being separated, the ships were moved to another location for inspection and repair. At the same time, the rescue team dealt with environmental pollution by setting up buoys to prevent oil spills and collecting contaminated oil on the water surface.
According to Mr. Le Quang Phuc, Head of the Southern Branch of the Vietnam Environmental Incident Response Center, about 350 kg of oil-contaminated waste and 50 liters of oil spilled into the environment have been collected. Experts explained the delay in separating the ships due to the need to choose the time when the water current is strongest to use propulsion, to ensure efficiency and safety. By 9 am on the same day, the rescue and environmental treatment work was basically completed. After the rescue phase, the center coordinated with international organizations from the UK and France to develop a plan to restore and protect the important ecological environment of Can Gio from the negative impacts of this maritime accident. It is expected that 30 hectares of forest will be cleaned within a year to restore the ecosystem and ensure livelihoods for the local community.
Previously, on April 25, these two cargo ships collided on Long Tau River, although causing no casualties or damage to goods, oil spread to more than 30 hectares of mangrove forest in Can Gio district.
