Four people detained for exploiting Kien Kien wood in Phu Quoc forest

Authorities caught illegal loggers red-handed.

Accordingly, at around 11 p.m. on March 23, the authorities discovered the subjects including Do Tien Dat, Thai Hoang Huynh, Cao Quoc Cuong, Dang Van Khanh and 3 men (identities unknown) illegally logging in Sub-area 52 of the strictly protected special-use forest in Rach Tram hamlet, Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city.

Initially, the volume of wood was determined to be 2,119m3 of round wood. Of which, 38 logs with a volume of 1,921m3 were Kien Kien trees, 3 logs of common wood with a volume of 0.198m3 were Tram wood and Cong wood.

Kien Kien is a precious wood on the list of prohibited exploitation.

Phu Quoc National Park Forest Protection Department temporarily seized the evidence and arrested the violators. Working with the authorities, the subjects admitted that the above wood was cut down by the subjects.

Currently, Phu Quoc National Park Forest Protection Department is coordinating with the Investigation Police Department of Phu Quoc City Police to temporarily detain Do Tien Dat, Thai Hoang Huynh, Cao Quoc Cuong, and Dang Van Khanh for further investigation and handling according to the law.
