From 24/7 security cameras

Tam Ky has recently deployed a traffic surveillance camera system and a flood monitoring and warning system, as part of its Smart City Operations Center.

There are a total of 60 smart traffic cameras installed at intersections on major roads. Each location has 5 high-resolution cameras to record activity 24/7.

This is one of the projects aimed at building a smart city in Tam Ky, with a total investment of over 231 billion VND for this purpose.

Importantly, Tam Ky City has developed specialized databases to support its leadership and management work, as well as focusing on solutions for cashless payments, cashless streets, and "Market 4.0" initiatives.

The Quang Nam Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, aims for Quang Nam to be a province with modern digital infrastructure and a complete and synchronized digital data system, with 100% 4G/5G network coverage across all localities, creating a foundation for the development of digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

Right here at Tam Ky market, traders have become increasingly accustomed to cashless payments. For example, two years ago, scanning QR codes to pay for goods was a novelty, but now it's commonplace, even becoming a habit for both sellers and buyers.

Ms. Nguyen Lien, 60 years old, a small business owner at Tam Ky market, shared that since March 2022, the government has started implementing cashless payments at the market. In the early days, hardly anyone paid attention to bank transfers; most people used cash.

"After two years, bank transfers for purchases are becoming increasingly common. Customers are using cash less. This is the biggest change I've seen since applying digital transformation to my life," said Ms. Lien.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Ha (residing in An Son ward, Tam Ky city) observes that cashless payment for goods is becoming a trend for everyone.

“Three years ago, when I went to the market, paying by bank transfer was quite difficult. But now everything is much easier. Just open the app, scan the QR code, enter the amount, and press send. Everything is done. Some shop owners have printers that print out QR codes corresponding to the amount to be paid, so customers don't need to enter the amount themselves,” Mr. Ha shared.

Traveling around Tam Ky is becoming safer for residents thanks to the extensive network of cameras. Almost every alleyway has a security camera. Residents of Tam Ky say that this has significantly improved security and order.

Most notably, at urban intersections, there are four-way cameras. This tool helps authorities easily monitor traffic and social safety.

Data platform development

A new feature in Tam Ky's designation as a "digital transformation city" is the use of QR codes embedded under street signs. This is a novel addition to the smart streets of this urban area.

Tam Ky has named this project "digitizing street names". Residents and tourists can easily find out the name of each street on their phones via QR code.

Mr. Le Khanh (An Son ward) was delighted after scanning the QR code on Le Loi street. Information about the location, a brief biography, and the career of this historical hero was displayed on his phone screen, simultaneously in Vietnamese and English.

According to Mr. Khanh, this project to digitize street names helps residents and tourists access information easily, concisely, and without unnecessary details. In particular, young people will also learn more about the nation's history through these introductions.

According to the leaders of the Tam Ky City People's Committee, the locality is digitizing street names with the aim of building a database, especially in the field of archiving and historical education in a modern way.

Tourists only need a mobile phone to scan the QR code, and all information about the street name, such as birth date, death date, life summary, career, or significance of events, and the identifying characteristics of the street name, will be displayed on the screen. This helps both locals and tourists easily find information about the names of each street.

Tam Ky is also the first locality in the country to implement a digital library. Mr. Vo Van Thien - Deputy Director of the Tam Ky City Center for Culture, Sports and Communication - informed that the city library currently has 10 tablets available for users to experience, with more than 10,000 books integrated into each device.

Users simply need to register an account, then log in to the member app to read. Many categories are available, such as children's books, novels, history, and more.

According to the leaders of the Tam Ky City People's Committee, building a smart city requires developing a data platform. This will help in the planning and management of smart urban complexes. From there, the government can easily improve its capacity to handle administrative procedures and serve citizens and businesses.

In 2024, Tam Ky will implement the construction of a pilot service center and install equipment for pilot services. Workshops will be organized to review operational procedures and promote the pilot services…
