Orders increased 30% during Tet holiday
It is noted that at this time, OCOP product owners in Can Tho City are increasing production of goods to meet the increasing demand of customers during the Lunar New Year 2024.
In addition, a series of OCOP products are included in Tet gift baskets, diverse in designs and types associated with regional characteristics, attracting consumers to choose as gifts for relatives and friends.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Nhien - the owner of Kim Nhien soursop tea (4-star OCOP, Co Do district, Can Tho city) - said that her facility is currently increasing production to meet customer orders for Tet gift wrapping and export abroad. This year, demand has increased so the consumption at her facility has also increased by 30% compared to previous years.
Connecting trade, services and tourism
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. of Economics Tran Huu Hiep commented that the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, which has been implemented nationwide over the past five years, has achieved impressive results. However, each locality, including Can Tho City, needs to receive more attention in the coming time.
“We have OCOP products that customers are interested in choosing. However, the quality, reputation and brand of the products are still issues that investors, as well as the government and management agencies need to continue to have support policies and manage at specific standards to create trust for customers,” said Mr. Hiep.
Mr. Hiep believes that any product, when invested in and effective, must pay attention to consumption and customer tastes, which means combining supply and demand.
Therefore, brands labeled OCOP need to improve their quality further, especially need to have programs connecting trade and services, especially connecting with tourism.
Currently, many tourists when coming to Can Tho are still confused in choosing souvenirs. Thus, the OCOP product development program needs to choose products with the city's unique characteristics to invest in.
However, OCOP products should not only be viewed from the perspective of commerce, agriculture or handicrafts but also need to be promoted especially in the tourism sector. Tourism will breathe life into these products and help to elevate them.
According to Mr. Hiep, Tet is the time when demand for goods increases, especially consumer goods. Besides, this is also a business opportunity for individuals and enterprises.
If the purchasing power of OCOP products in Can Tho has not been as expected in the past, it is necessary to take advantage of this Tet holiday to improve quality and design, create connections between trade, services and tourism, in order to open up outlets for OCOP products.
After 5 years of implementing the OCOP program, up to now, Can Tho City has had 148 OCOP products of enterprises, cooperatives, and facility owners in the area certified with 3-star or higher OCOP; diverse from clean vegetables, fresh fruits, processed foods from agricultural products, tea products from plants...
In recent times, the agricultural sector of Can Tho City has organized many activities to introduce, promote, and strengthen the connection of OCOP products to festival events, tourist attractions, tourism businesses, etc. in the area. Thanks to that, the OCOP product brand in Can Tho City has been widely promoted and introduced.
