On August 18, in his first comment since being officially approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn as Prime Minister, new Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed: "As the head of the Government , I will work with the National Assembly with an open heart, welcoming all ideas to help develop the country."
Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn officially approved Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Prime Minister in the morning of the same day.
The King's assent was read by House Secretary Apat Sukhanand at a ceremony attended by new Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and many Pheu Thai Party (Pheu Thai) officials.
On August 16, the Thai House of Representatives elected Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of Pheu Thai, as the new Prime Minister. At the age of 37, she is the country's youngest prime minister and the third member of the Shinawatra family to hold the position after her father and aunt, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra.
