Production workers at the yarn factory - Hue Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company

Creating momentum for growth

To meet the stringent technical and quality requirements of international partners, Hue Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company (Huegatex) has invested hundreds of billions of VND in purchasing modern equipment such as automatic cutting machines, fabric inspection machines, automatic hemming machines, etc. These modern machines and equipment have played a crucial role in completely changing the collar sewing process. From sewing one collar at a time manually, requiring skilled workers of level 5 or 6, now only unskilled workers can operate the equipment to sew six collars simultaneously with high accuracy.

These technological advancements have helped the company minimize operational errors, increase productivity, and ensure consistent product quality. This is a key factor in helping Huegatex maintain the trust of international partners and comprehensively fulfill the production and business targets assigned by the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group.

Huegatex is also actively implementing initiatives, technical improvements, and digital transformation. Currently, the company continues its in-depth investment roadmap, with a series of modern equipment such as yarn-feeding robots, large-format cotton carding machines, automatic folding and bagging machines, programmable machines in the garment factory, and rooftop solar energy systems... The company also aims for comprehensive automation, designing smart garment factories, and digitizing management and operational processes to improve efficiency and labor productivity.

Another example is Phu Hoa An Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company, which has applied technology to enhance competitiveness and improve production and business efficiency. By investing in automatic fabric spreading and cutting machines, the company has shortened production time and reduced the number of workers. The finished products achieve high precision, meeting export requirements. Mr. Le Hong Long, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the company, emphasized: "Automation helps us better control quality, ensure timely delivery, and significantly reduce production costs."

Not only in the textile industry, CP Vietnam Livestock Corporation - Hue Branch - a leading frozen shrimp processing and export company in the area, has also invested heavily in technology to develop production and enhance competitiveness. With an automated weighing and packaging system, the company has reduced the number of workers from 20 to just 2 per shift while maintaining stable work efficiency. Processes such as weighing, weight control, and removing foreign objects using metal detectors are all performed accurately and continuously, ensuring international quality standards.

According to Mr. Phan Van Hung, Technical Director of CP Vietnam - Hue Branch, thanks to modern technology, the product boiling capacity has increased from 400kg to 1,000kg/hour, ensuring both progress and reducing labor pressure for workers.

We need more support.

While the remarkable achievements of applying technology to production are undeniable, the reality is that investing in modern technology remains a challenge for the majority of small and micro-enterprises in the city. The main reasons stem from limited financial resources, a lack of information on suitable technological solutions, and reluctance to change traditional operating models.

According to Mr. Tran Van My, Chairman of the Hue City Business Association, deploying automation equipment, advanced management software, or comprehensive digital transformation requires a significant initial investment. Meanwhile, many businesses face difficulties in accessing preferential credit policies, lack high-quality human resources to operate machinery and technology, or lack experts to advise on technology roadmaps suitable to their scale and industry. Therefore, support from state management agencies and financial institutions is essential. “We need policies to support preferential interest rates on loans for businesses investing in technology; industrial promotion programs, support for equipment modernization; and the organization of technology transfer workshops and the introduction of model projects for businesses to learn from and replicate,” Tran Van My suggested.

Simultaneously, training and developing a workforce with the skills to master technology, understand automation operations, machine programming, and data analysis is also a key factor in maximizing the effectiveness of technology. Vocational schools and training centers need to closely collaborate with businesses to develop training programs that are relevant to real-world situations, while also quickly updating to reflect new technological trends and preparing the workforce for the smart manufacturing era.

Over the past period, Hue City has been actively implementing many practical support programs such as: connecting and transferring technology, linking with consulting units and technology equipment suppliers, organizing training on digital management, guiding the application of business management software, digital signatures, warehouse management, electronic accounting, etc. These activities have initially brought positive results to the business community, especially in improving management capacity and optimizing operating costs.

However, for technology to truly become a sustainable lever for business development, a comprehensive, long-term, and flexible support strategy is needed. In this strategy, businesses play a central role, the State acts as a facilitator, and supporting organizations and research and training institutions act as extensions, providing knowledge and solutions. Only when all parties cooperate closely and work together can technological innovation in businesses become a widespread movement, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the entire local economy in the new era.
