As of the evening of July 29, heavy rain, flash floods, and tornadoes that occurred over the past 3 days in Tanh Linh district have caused severe damage to crops, roads, and people's property. Initial damage is estimated at over 5 billion VND.
Accordingly, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Tanh Linh district said that in recent days, the district has been experiencing prolonged heavy rains, tornadoes, flooding, and landslides. In particular, heavy rains from the evening of July 27 to 29 caused severe damage to the communes of Huy Khiem, Dong Kho, La Ngau, Gia Huynh, and Suoi Kiet.
Specifically, the natural disaster caused local flooding of about 20 households (water level over 0.5 - 1 m) in residential areas of villages 1, 2 and 3 of Suoi Kiet commune, 2 households had to relocate and arrange temporary accommodation due to water level over 1 m deep. In addition, about 160 m of various fences of 3 households in village 1, Gia Huynh commune collapsed. Flash floods also swept away and damaged 14 hectares of corn, rice, and cashew in La Ngau commune, with a damage level of over 70%, estimated damage value of over 50 million VND. About 40 hectares of 75-day-old rice in Huy Khiem commune are deeply flooded; 20 cashew trees about 4 years old of Mr. Nguyen Van Hai in village 1 fell, with a damage level of over 50%.
Heavy rains have washed away, broken and completely destroyed fish cages of households along La Nga River, Dong Kho Commune with a total of 15 cages/4,698 m3 of cages with 12 tons of Catfish (6.5 months old) in the selling stage and 30,000 newly released fish; 38 tons of Red Tilapia in the selling stage, the estimated loss is over 4 billion VND. The flood also washed away 30 poultry over 28 days old in Suoi Kiet Commune...
Regarding infrastructure, in Huy Khiem, La Ngau, and Gia Huynh communes, water overflowed onto the roads, causing landslides on rural roads, roads leading to production areas, and some locations on National Highway 55 through La Ngau commune, causing traffic jams for many hours.
Immediately after heavy rains, flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding of residential areas, the District Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue directed and coordinated with communes to deploy response measures, mobilized relevant units to support rescue; the communes' natural disaster prevention and control teams ensured the safety of people's lives and property. The locality also mobilized people to join hands in handling and removing trash from the flood drainage system and streams to limit flooding and protect the foot of bridges due to trees and trash blocking the flow.
In La Ngau commune alone, the District Economic and Infrastructure Department coordinated and promptly informed the Road Management Department to mobilize specialized vehicles to clear rocks, soil, and trees to ensure the smooth flow of National Highway 55. In addition, Suoi Kiet commune mobilized shock troops to work 24/7 at flooded residential areas, supporting people to move their belongings to higher ground and relocate and arrange temporary accommodation for households that were deeply flooded.
