Journey of changing perception
Since the Central Government issued the directive documents, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union (VWU) has quickly concretized the content with a practical and synchronous implementation plan from the province to the grassroots level. Gender equality work has been identified as a key and consistent task in the direction and implementation.
Communication is the first step in the journey to change social thinking. Tens of thousands of communication sessions on domestic violence prevention, “Listening to children speak” dialogues, association activities... have reached every hamlet and every family. Communication activities, legaleducation , monitoring, policy criticism, support for women to start businesses... have been organized systematically, in close coordination with Party committees, authorities, and organizations.
In 5 years, the province organized more than 17,220 communication sessions, attracting nearly 1 million women to participate. Communication forms are also constantly being innovated: from Zalo, fanpage, video clips, social networks... to modern digital platforms, helping to reach women more flexibly and closely than ever. Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa shared: "We do not work for targets, but for the belief that: when women understand their value, they will be stronger - not only for themselves, but for their families, children and society".
Real support, motivation to rise
Women's Unions at all levels have implemented many typical and practical models: "Each branch has an address for women in difficulty", "Trusted address in the community", "Domestic violence prevention club", "Rapid response team to prevent child abuse"... These models are not only social security solutions, but also create a foundation for women to confidently rise up with their own abilities.
Over the past 5 years, more than 48,000 women have had access to loans with a total outstanding balance of nearly 1,700 billion VND; 6,700 women have received vocational training; over 27,000 women have been introduced to jobs. Hundreds of women have joined cooperatives, cooperatives, and OCOP chains. The support is not only material, but also trust, knowledge, and connections so that each woman can start a business, be economically independent, and take control of her life.
Along with that, the role of women in the political system is increasingly enhanced. The rate of female participation in Party committees reached 30.05% at the grassroots level and 20.4% at the provincial level - exceeding the strategic target. More than 1,100 female cadres were trained in skills to be elected representatives; the results of the 2021 - 2026 People's Council election recorded that 25.92% of provincial People's Council delegates were female, higher than the national average. Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa commented: "When women are given opportunities, they not only rise up for themselves, but also pull the whole society up."
In particular, policy dialogue activities between provincial leaders and women entrepreneurs, young women, rural women, etc. have become a bright spot in mass mobilization work. Hundreds of recommendations related to land, loans, insurance, taxes, administrative procedures, etc. have been recorded and resolved promptly, creating trust and solidarity between members and the association.
The Provincial Women's Union also boldly criticized 8 draft resolutions, commented on 374 policy documents, and proposed to increase allowances for branch presidents - those who are close to the people and shoulder the union's work regardless of hours. Although these proposals are small, they show respect and recognition for the contributions of grassroots women.
In the context of digital transformation and deep integration, promoting gender equality requires a more flexible approach. The Provincial Women's Union has gradually built a digital ecosystem: Zalo group, member management platform, digital media... to connect and accompany modern women, who are proactive, knowledgeable, brave and committed.
“Gender equality is not about giving priority to women, but about creating conditions for both men and women to live, study, work and contribute in an environment of respect and fairness. This is the path we are determined to pursue and no one will be left behind.” (President of Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa) |
