According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV) on May 17, the offshore fishing vessel "Lupeng Yuanyu 028" capsized in the central Indian Ocean in the early morning of May 16 (Beijing time). The vessel is owned by Penglai Jinglu Fishery Company based in Shandong Province, eastern China.

CCTV said 39 crew members on board the ship - including 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesians and five Filipinos - were missing and none have yet been found.

President Xi Jinping ordered authorities to make every effort to search for the missing and to strengthen early warnings about safety risks to offshore fishing activities, according to CCTV.

China's maritime search and rescue center has notified relevant countries about the accident. The country's foreign ministry has asked its representative agencies in Australia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines and other countries to coordinate search and rescue operations.

According to CCTV, search and rescue teams from Australia and several other countries have arrived at the scene, while China has sent two ships to support the effort.
