According to the investigation of Bau Bang District Police ( Binh Duong ), to carry out the bank robbery, Nguyen Tan Phat (born in 1997, residing in Thanh Tam Ward, Chon Thanh Town, Binh Phuoc Province) had carefully researched before taking action.
Accordingly, at around 10:30 a.m. on April 17, Phat drove his motorbike to a residential alley next to the Sacombank Bau Bang Transaction Office (National Highway 13, Lai Uyen town, Bau Bang district), then walked into the bank, sat on a chair on the ground floor and observed.

An hour later, when the bank was about to close, Phat still hadn't left, saying he was waiting for a friend. When the security guard pressed the shutter to close the transaction office, Phat took out his gun and fired a shot into the air at the ceiling.
The 26-year-old man threw the bag at Ms. D.TCC (bank cashier) and climbed onto the counter saying: "This money is not yours, it's the bank's money. If you don't give it to me, I'll die."
Fearing for her life, Ms. C. took several stacks of money from the cabinet and put them in Phat's pocket. At the same time, the robber pointed his gun at Mr. LHP (bank security guard) who was pressing the switch for the rolling door.
Phat asked Mr. P. to open the door. Because he did not comply, the security guard was shot once in the back by the robber.
After being shot, Mr. P. turned around and hugged Phat and wrestled him to the ground. At the same time, the Bau Bang District Police force arrived in time to control the robber.
According to authorities, during the struggle, Phat fired several shots, hitting Mr. P. Phat himself was also injured in the head.
After controlling the gun, the police seized the following: a revolver with no bullets in the chamber; a black bag containing more than 700 million VND in cash (not yet accurately counted); a nylon bag containing 6 bullets.

At the police station, Phat confessed that he had borrowed more than 20 million VND from the bank but was unable to pay it back. He and his family were repeatedly asked to pay the debt and threatened.
To carry out his robbery plan, Phat went online to buy a revolver-style gun that shoots sports bullets for 5 million VND and 20 bullets. Next, Phat surveyed banks on Highway 13 from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Phuoc to choose a deserted bank.
On April 13, Phat decided to carry out his intention at Sacombank Bau Bang Branch. When he arrived there, Phat did not dare to carry out his intention and gave up.
After returning home and showing his determination, on April 17, Phat committed the crime and was arrested.
