Hai Duong City plans to name 9 new wards after rearranging commune-level administrative units in the city, including: Thanh Dong, Le Thanh Nghi, Quang Trung, Viet Hoa, Tu Minh, Thach Khoi, Tan Hung, Nam Dong, Ai Quoc instead of the original plan of Hai Duong 1 to Hai Duong 9.
The names of the new wards are named according to the principle of being easy to read, easy to remember, suitable to the cultural characteristics, traditions, and history of Hai Duong city today, Thanh Dong in the past; named after a typical celebrity, at the same time the name of a ward before the arrangement and according to the principle that communes and towns arranged with wards will take the name of the ward.
Thanh Dong is the old name of Hai Duong city, formed in 1804, Thanh Dong is considered the "eastern fence" of Thang Long citadel. Naming the ward Thanh Dong contributes to preserving the traditional history of Hai Duong city.
Comrade Le Thanh Nghi is an outstanding son of Hai Duong, a typical revolutionary senior of the Party who made many great contributions to the revolutionary movement of Bac Ky, a talented leader of the Party and the State. This naming is to pay tribute and honor his contributions to the country and homeland, contributingto educating the tradition of patriotism and revolutionary ideals for the younger generation.
King Quang Trung is a national hero. Naming the ward Quang Trung contributes to educating the tradition of patriotism, arousing pride and love for the homeland for the young generation.
Viet Hoa Ward is the old name of this area. From the beginning of the 19th century, Viet Hoa belonged to Dan Trang commune, Cam Giang district, Thuong Hong prefecture, Hai Duong town (now Hai Duong province). From the name Tan Dan (in 1945) changed to Viet Hoa (in 1946), after a short name change, in 1967 changed the name to Viet Hoa. Naming the ward as Viet Hoa contributed to the connection between localities in the arranged area.
According to the history of Tu Minh Ward Party Committee, Tu Minh land used to belong to Thien Tai district, later changed to Da Cam, during the Tran Dynasty called Cam Giang, Hong Chau road; then changed its name to Tu Minh. Naming the ward as Tu Minh is easy to read, easy to remember, and consistent with the historical tradition of the area.
Thach Khoi was formerly Thach Khoi commune, Gia Loc district. After the August Revolution, when the commune was abolished, the name Thach Khoi was kept. Naming the ward Thach Khoi contributed to arousing pride in the homeland.
Previously, Tan Hung ward was a part of Tan Hung commune, Gia Loc district. In 1974, Phuc Duyen, Ba Lieu, Bao Thap villages of Tan Hung commune were separated and established Hai Tan commune of Hai Duong town (now Hai Tan ward of Hai Duong city). Naming the ward Tan Hung contributed to arousing pride in the homeland.
Nam Dong Ward is named according to the principle that communes are arranged with wards, then they take the name of the ward. The ward name is easy to read, easy to remember, suitable for historical and cultural traditions, contributing to arousing pride in the homeland.
Naming the ward Ai Quoc aims to highlight the local tradition and to remember the name of the great leader of the Party and State. This place was honored to welcome Uncle Ho to visit on May 31, 1957; contributing to arousing pride in the homeland.
Currently, new ward names are being implemented by communes and wards in Hai Duong city to collect people's opinions.
