New reports indicate a shift in both intensity and sophistication in the use of the Su-57. The Russian military is reportedly refining its weapons options and testing new tactics for using the aircraft in a full-scale war in Ukraine. Photo: @The Aviationist.

Specifically, Russian forces are deploying Su-57 stealth fighters with new missiles and improved maneuverability, putting Ukrainian targets at high risk, even if protected by the US Patriot air defense system. Photo: @National Security Journal.

Among the new capabilities, the Su-57 can take off from short runways and accelerate to 250-280 km/h in just 12 seconds, according to Polish publication Interia. Photo: @Russia Beyond.

The aircraft could eventually be equipped with the powerful and super-maneuverable AL-41F1 engine, which offers a host of other features including supercruise that allows the aircraft to remain undetected when approaching targets from a distance. Photo: @ National Security Journal.

The newspaper Interia and several other sources reported that the Su-57 is also firing a new missile called the Kh-69, which is mounted inside the Su-57's weapons bay. Photo: @The Aviationist.

This Kh-69 missile is said to be able to fly at low altitudes, 20 meters above the ground. The Kh-69 is said to have been used in a recent attack on targets near Kyiv. Photo: @Russia Beyond.

Alongside the Kh-69, the Russian military is testing a new guided weapon – likely a hybrid of a drone and a missile. Dubbed the Su-71K by some sources, the system is said to be harder to detect on radar, and capable of sharper evasive maneuvers. Photo: @ National Security Journal.

Not only that, some sources said that Russia used the Zircon hypersonic missile for the first time from the Su-57 fighter last week. This missile is installed on the aircraft's external hardpoints. However, other sources said that the size of the Zircon is not suitable for the Su-57 and the missile on the Su-57's external hardpoints could be a newly developed smaller version of the Zircon, with a shorter range. These actions reflect a broader trend in Russia’s efforts to adapt Ukraine’s air defenses and develop combat testing procedures for its fifth-generation aircraft. Photo: @The Aviationist.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not publicly confirmed the extent or nature of the Su-57’s combat operations over Ukraine. However, the increased attention the aircraft has received on the battlefield appears to coincide with a broader strategy to showcase its capabilities to potential foreign customers. By deploying the Su-57 in real war zones, Russia also wants to attract interest from international partners and demonstrate the usefulness of this fighter in combat conditions. Photo: @ National Security Journal.
