After many years of working and saving, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong (Dung Cam residential group, Viet Trung Farm town) was able to build a new, spacious house in 2021 with a total cost of nearly 2 billion VND for his family to settle down. However, not long after moving in, the family received notice that the house was subject to clearance for the North-South expressway project.
The house was his passion when he built it, so demolishing it to build a new one was both costly and “unbearable”. The family has a large total area, so after researching and proposing to the government, Mr. Cuong decided to hire a team to move the entire house back.
When hired, Mr. Huynh Van Tai and his team moved the house to a new location 100m away from the old location, raised the floor height and changed the direction of the house according to the homeowner's request. The cost for this move was about 500 million VND.
“The house relocation took about a month, but it was still faster than waiting for the resettlement area to be completed and a new house to be built. The workers also doubled the number of old pillars to make the house foundation more solid. After the relocation, we were able to move in and live normally, while the site was still handed over to the government on time,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong.
Not only Mr. Cuong’s family, but many other households in the town also hired Mr. Huynh Van Tai to help move their houses. These are households that have built solid houses, but a part of the land was cleared. Therefore, the family wishes to resettle on the spot on the remaining area.
Mr. Huynh Van Tai and his team of workers are busy completing the relocation of the last house here. Because he is skilled, this job is not difficult for Mr. Tai. "Here, households only move their houses back a few dozen meters to a hundred meters from the old location, so the price is not high, and the technique is not complicated. For each house, the cost of completing all the relocation costs about 30% of the house's value," said Mr. Tai.
99.5% progress
The North-South Expressway construction project in the eastern part of the 2021-2025 period through Quang Binh province has affected 3,772 households. Of these, 551 households are subject to relocation and on-site resettlement.
Compensation and site clearance support work for the project in Quang Binh province has reached 99.5% progress.
Up to now, the majority of households resettled on-site have proactively moved their houses and assets to suitable locations to make way for the project. Households subject to relocation are waiting for the government to complete the resettlement areas.
Quang Binh province has been building 26 resettlement areas to help people affected by the project stabilize their lives. Localities have completed 13 resettlement areas, the remaining 13 resettlement areas have reached about 93% of the volume and are continuing to be constructed.
