In the opening match of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, U23 Vietnam played successfully when winning 3-0 against U23 Laos. With this result, coach Kim Sang Sik's team is ranked at the top of Group B with 3 points, 2 points more than U23 Cambodia and U23 Laos.

In this group, U23 Laos has played two matches and is definitely eliminated. The top position in the group (and the ticket to the next round) will be determined in the direct confrontation between U23 Vietnam and U23 Cambodia at 8:00 p.m. on July 22.
It can be seen that the door to the next round of U23 Vietnam is very wide. If they want to win the right to enter the semi-finals, the "Golden Dragons" only need not to lose to U23 Cambodia in the decisive match. This is not too difficult a task when we have a force superior to U23 Cambodia. Moreover, U23 Vietnam is also an experienced team, with many national players.
However, coach Kim Sang Sik's team is not complacent because of that. That is because we are still at risk of being eliminated.
In case of defeat against U23 Cambodia, U23 Vietnam will lose the top spot to their opponents. At that time, the "Golden Star Warriors" can only hope to compete for the best second place. However, the chance of U23 Vietnam is quite slim.

Therefore, at all costs, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team need to make full use of their right to self-determination to win a ticket to continue as the top team in Group B. At that time, U23 Vietnam will meet the second team in Group A or U23 Thailand (when the best second team in Group A is not in Group A).
Vietnam U23 is the champion of the two most recent Southeast Asian U23 tournaments in 2022 and 2023. Coach Kim Sang Sik's team is looking to complete a hat-trick of consecutive championships in this tournament.
