After the unexpected accident, the 39-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment with serious injuries to her chest, waist and both heels.
At the Emergency Department, doctors examined the patient and ordered a CT scan. The results showed that the patient had a fracture of the L1 spine, a fracture of the right L1 transverse process, the left L2, and a fracture of the heel of both legs.
The medical team determined that this was a serious injury. Without timely intervention, the patient could face the risk of spinal instability, spinal cord injury leading to paralysis of the lower limbs, and impaired movement and urination.

After an urgent consultation, the doctors ordered a minimally invasive surgery to insert screws through the lumbar spine for the woman. The surgery was performed by specialist Dr. Ho Hoai Hung, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, in coordination with the team of the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, and lasted for more than 1 hour.
After that, the patient continued to have surgery by the Orthopedic Trauma team to combine the two calcaneal bones. After 1 day of surgery, the patient was awake, had significantly less pain and could move lightly. By the 7th day, the patient's condition was stable, with no signs of infection or complications.
Currently, the patient is receiving physical therapy instructions to quickly restore mobility and return to normal activities.

Dr. Ho Hoai Hung said that this is a typical case of spinal injury due to a serious domestic accident. Fortunately, the injury has not completely compressed the spinal cord, so if surgery is performed promptly, the patient's recovery is very promising.
Doctors warn that accidents at work, in daily life, in sports or in traffic can cause dangerous spinal injuries, which can leave lifelong consequences. Therefore, people need to pay attention when moving and working, and need to be fully equipped with protective gear when working.
When an accident occurs, early detection and proper treatment are key.
