Establishing a branch campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Gia Lai.

TPO – On the evening of September 5th, Professor Huynh Van Son, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, announced that the Ministry of Education and Training has issued a decision to establish a branch of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Gia Lai province , based on Gia Lai College of Education.

The decision was signed by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son on September 5th.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education is responsible for reporting to the Ministry of Education and Training, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, and relevant ministries and agencies to organize the handover and acceptance of students, personnel, finances, assets, facilities, equipment, and related documents of Gia Lai College of Education in accordance with the law; and reporting to the Ministry of Education and Training on the conditions for ensuring educational quality so that the Ministry of Education and Training can allow the Gia Lai branch of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education to implement training activities in the future.

Professor Huynh Van Son stated that the completion of the project to merge Gia Lai College of Education into the Gia Lai Branch of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education required the school's dedicated efforts over two years, with support from the province, departments of the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as other relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Ministry of Finance .

The Gia Lai branch of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will undertake the responsibility of training human resources for Gia Lai province as well as several provinces and cities in the Central Highlands and neighboring regions. It is committed to prioritizing training in pedagogical fields to ensure sufficient teachers for the region, especially in subjects where there is a shortage or demand from the overall context. Simultaneously, the professional development of teachers, educational administrators, and other personnel will also be prioritized as a crucial task.

Mr. Son further informed that the total scale for the 2024-2026 period is expected to be 650 undergraduate students and approximately 200-300 college-level early childhood education students. After that, the number of students in the field can develop according to the progress and effectiveness of investment, as well as the orientation to meet the needs of the education and training sector of the province and other provinces and cities in the Central Highlands region. Enrollment scale will be calculated to increase steadily by 5% to 10% each year for the 2027-2030 period and then based on the forecast of human resources in the province and the region, especially in education and related fields.

It is known that Ho Chi Minh City University of Education was established in 1976. Its predecessor was the Faculty of Education under the University of Saigon in 1957. In 1995, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education was incorporated as a member of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. However, in 1999, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City was reorganized through a split and new establishment, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education became an independent unit.

Currently, in addition to its main campus in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also has a branch campus in Long An and, most recently, a branch campus in Gia Lai. In 2024, the university's admission scores ranged from 21.9 to 28.6. At the Long An branch campus, in its first year of enrollment, the admission scores were also high, ranging from 22 to 27.2 points.
