Thanh Nhan unexpectedly injured, U.23 Vietnam urgently adds the best young star of V-League

Before the opening match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship, the Vietnam U.23 team suffered a loss in strength when striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan was injured and could not continue to accompany his teammates.

Injury after an unbalanced landing

Nguyen Thanh Nhan suffered an injury during the training session on the evening of July 16 of the Vietnam U.23 team, after an unbalanced landing and had to leave the session. On the morning of July 17, the player was taken to the hospital for an MRI scan by the medical team. The results showed that Thanh Nhan had damaged the ligaments in his left ankle and could not recover in time to participate in the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament.

This is not the first time the young striker has missed important matches and tournaments due to injury. Previously, Thanh Nhan had to miss the 2023 Asian Cup, could not compete in the bronze medal match at the 32nd SEA Games and most recently could not participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship.

In order to replenish his squad in time, Coach Kim Sang-sik decided to recall versatile midfielder Le Van Thuan to replace Nguyen Thanh Nhan. The Korean coach also expressed his regret and encouraged Thanh Nhan to return home to have the best conditions for treatment and recovery.

Le Van Thuan returns to U.23 Vietnam

Le Van Thuan, born in 2006, is one of the outstanding young players who grew up from the Thanh Hoa Club training center. In the 2024 - 2025 season, Van Thuan was promoted to the first team of the Thanh team to compete in the V-League and left many impressions with 16 appearances, scoring 4 goals and contributing 2 assists, thereby receiving the title "Best young player of V-League 2024 - 2025".

With his impressive performance, Le Van Thuan was called up to the Vietnam U.23 team in preparation for the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, the 2026 Asian U.23 qualifiers and towards the 33rd SEA Games. However, in the final list of 23 players, Van Thuan was not present.

Thanh Nhan’s injury is a very unfortunate thing for this player personally, but it opens up an opportunity for the 18-year-old midfielder currently playing for Thanh Hoa Club to rejoin the national team, ready to take on the task of replacing his senior to contribute to the U.23 Vietnam team at this year’s regional tournament. Van Thuan is expected to be in Jakarta on July 18.
