Coming to Minh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, when talking about rabbit farming, everyone knows and gives directions to Mr. Le Van Nguyen's house in hamlet 4. Mr. Nguyen has been involved in large-scale rabbit farming for nearly 10 years.

Entering two rabbit farms equipped with air conditioning systems, Mr. Nguyen said: Raising rabbits since 2016, at first there were only 100 pairs of breeding rabbits, thanks to his experience in raising rabbits and having a veterinary profession in hand, the rabbit herd grew rapidly. Just a few years later, he always maintained 500 pairs of breeding rabbits, selling over 1.5 tons of meat rabbits and thousands of breeding rabbit pairs every year.
In the total area of 2 houses of about 300 m2 , he invested in installing an air conditioning system using steam fan technology and knew how to take care of them, so almost every batch of rabbits was successful, even in the hot summer with high temperatures, they were still raised normally.

"In 2014, I graduated from Veterinary College and worked for a rabbit farm in Hanoi . Seeing that rabbits are easy to raise and profitable, I decided to return to my hometown to invest in rabbit farming. Rabbits eat leaves, grass, rice, corn, potatoes, cassava, etc. and grow quickly. The gestation period of rabbits is short (30 - 32 days), and each litter produces 6 - 8 babies. The downside is that rabbits often get scabies and diarrhea. However, these diseases are easy to cure, the problem is that they have to be vaccinated regularly," Nguyen shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen, this New Zealand rabbit breed takes about 2.5 - 3 months to reach a weight of 2.2 - 2.5 kg/head, which is also the time to sell. The consumption market is at restaurants from Quang Binh, Ha Tinh , Nghe An and Thanh Hoa... The lowest selling price was 90,000 VND/kg, currently the price is 120,000 - 130,000 VND/kg, but the supply is not enough for the market. There are times when the market demand is high, he has to buy rabbit meat from small-scale farming families to supply.

To proactively provide food for thousands of rabbits at a time, Mr. Nguyen planted 0.5 hectares of milkweed, took advantage of hilly areas to grow cassava, potatoes... and planted several acres of rice. Thanks to rabbit farming, he has an annual income of hundreds of millions of dong, and was able to build a spacious house.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Huong - Director of Yen Thanh District Agricultural Service Center added that currently in the district there are some households raising rabbits but on a small scale; the only large-scale household to supply a significant amount of goods is Mr. Le Van Nguyen in Minh Thanh commune./.
