Today, June 28, the VTV Cup 2025 volleyball tournament kicked off in Vinh Phuc with 8 participating teams. Not only for fans, VTV Cup is also a tournament with many beautiful memories for athletes. The tournament has witnessed many talents of Vietnamese volleyball coming to light, in which the most typical is captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.
Called up at 16
11 years ago at VTV Cup 2014, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team at that time gathered the most prominent stars such as Ngoc Hoa, Linh Chi, Do Thi Minh, Ha Ngoc Diem, Bui Thi Nga, Tra Giang,... Fans' impression of the 16-year-old girl Tran Thi Thanh Thuy was not much.
However, the tournament in Bac Ninh must have been very important to Thanh Thuy. Because it was the first time she wore the national team jersey to compete with her seniors who were her idols.
Before the VTV Cup 2014, Thanh Thuy shone brightly at the Tu Hung Cup, which included four strong teams: Thong Tin LienVietPostBank, VTV Binh Dien Long An , Cao Su Phu Rieng and Tan Binh TP.HCM. Thanh Thuy was named the best striker of the tournament, which was also the reason why she caught the eye of coach Nguyen Manh Hung and got a ticket to the national team at a very young age.

Talent is affirmed
Fans may not have paid much attention to the 16-year-old main striker at that time. But experts have identified Thanh Thuy as one of the future stars of Vietnamese volleyball thanks to her diligent training and playing attitude, impressive height, hitting power and good IQ.
Like any other young athlete, Thanh Thuy did not have many opportunities to play at VTV Cup 2014. However, the first time she joined the national team, she also had a beautiful memory when she won the championship with a thrilling 3-1 victory in the final match against Thailand.
From the rough diamond of Vietnamese volleyball, after VTV Cup 2014, fans witnessed Thanh Thuy accelerate like a storm.
The 1m93 tall girl quickly perfected her technique and gained experience in all arenas: in the Long An youth team, VTV Binh Dien Long An first team, the national U23 team, the Vietnam national team, or when playing abroad for international clubs.
But despite having participated in any tournament from domestic to international, VTV Cup is probably still an emotional playground for the female striker born in 1997. Since the time she first wore the national team jersey, Thanh Thuy has not missed any VTV Cup tournament until now.
After 11 years of trying to improve herself, Thanh Thuy has gone from a 16-year-old girl who was just starting out on the national team to a mainstay wearing the captain's armband on her sleeve. She is a support both professionally and spiritually for her teammates.

Along with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, VTV Cup 2014 is the tournament that witnessed another young talent of Vietnamese volleyball joining the national team, Le Thanh Thuy. In her first time wearing the national team jersey, the middle blocker from Hai Phong received the title of beauty queen of the tournament.
Le Thanh Thuy is the "big sister" athlete of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. At the age of 30, she is one of the four middle blockers who received the trust of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet at VTV Cup 2025.
