42 more Palestinians killed in Israeli bombing of Gaza

(CLO) According to medical sources from Al Jazeera, at least 42 people were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces have stepped up air strikes on central areas, while tanks have pushed deeper into the north and south of the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Six people were killed in two air strikes on a house and an area near Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, Reuters reported, citing medical workers. In Khan Younis in the south, an air strike on a motorbike killed four people.

In eastern Khan Younis, another attack on a tent camp housing displaced families killed at least five people and wounded several others.

In the Nuseirat refugee camp, Israeli warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes, destroying a high-rise building and damaging roads near churches. At least 11 people were killed, according to medical officials at the camp’s al-Awda Hospital.

Dozens of families were trapped in their homes after Israeli tanks entered the camp from the north, a hospital statement said, adding that ambulances could not reach the areas due to constant shelling.

The United Nations warns more than two million Gazans are trapped with little food and no safe drinking water.

"Food is scarce, and famine is looming. Much of Gaza's water is undrinkable. With no shelter, many families are living in abandoned homes or outdoors," the United Nations said.

Al Jazeera reported that many families had to survive for days on only water and dates. Many were unable to save their loved ones, who were buried under the rubble caused by Israeli shelling and airstrikes.

The fighting in Gaza escalated just a day after Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement. This raised hopes of a similar deal between Israel and Hamas. However, despite numerous attempts at negotiations, progress toward a ceasefire in Gaza has been minimal.
