Diving boots similar to those used by US and Ukrainian military divers have been found near one of the broken Nord Stream pipelines, in Sweden's exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea, according to Grayzone , an American media outlet.
The newspaper’s Jeffrey Brodsky took part in what was described as the first independent expedition to the site of the sabotage. Grayzone later released underwater drone footage showing what appeared to be a black and orange diving boot lying on the seabed, near what appeared to be the remains of a Russian gas pipeline.

The footage was taken on May 24, and shows Brodsky traveling to the site of the explosion on the ship with Swedish engineer Erik Andersson.
Grayzone says the boots are very similar to those used by the U.S. Navy. Ukrainian Navy divers trained by U.S. experts have also been seen wearing similar gear. However, similar boots are also available at some commercial stores.
The boot was discovered just 5 meters from a small leak in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Andersson contacted Nord Stream 2 AG, the Russian pipeline operator. The company “categorically” denied using divers to build or maintain pipelines in the area. The company also told the independent investigator that it first discovered the boot in February 2023 and reported it to Swedish investigators.
So far, no organization or individual has claimed responsibility for the explosion that took three of Russia's four undersea gas pipelines offline in late September 2022. The incident occurred shortly after Moscow reduced gas supplies to Europe amid a wave of Western sanctions over Russia's military actions in Ukraine.
In February, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh presented some evidence of the attacks that he said were linked to Washington. Germany's Der Spiegel magazine has meanwhile repeatedly reported on what it said was evidence linking the explosions to Ukrainian citizens.
Germany, Sweden and Denmark have launched investigations into the incident, but so far no major findings have been made public. Moscow has also been implicated in the explosion, but has denied it.
