On May 22, despite objections from the Israeli government , the governments of Norway, Ireland, and Spain held a press conference to announce their decision to recognize the State of Palestine.
According to Euronews, so far, eight member states of the European Union (EU) – Slovakia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Sweden – have recognized the State of Palestine.
These efforts are being driven by the escalating conflict between Israel and the Hamas Islamic Movement in the Gaza Strip, which has prompted international calls for a ceasefire and a lasting solution for peace in the region.
On the same day, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), internationally recognized as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, praised the decision of three European countries to recognize the State of Palestine as a “victory for truth and justice.”
