Candidates with IELTS 4.0 or higher are exempted from foreign language in the 2023 high school graduation exam

According to the guidelines for organizing the 2023 high school graduation exam issued by the Ministry of Education and Training yesterday afternoon, 12th graders need to take 4 exams to be considered for graduation recognition. Of which, 3 independent exams include Math, Literature, Foreign Language; 1 of 2 combined exams is Natural Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Science (History, Geography, Civic Education for general education program; or History, Geography for continuing education program).

For Foreign Languages, candidates can choose one of seven languages ​​including English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese and Korean without having to register for the language they study in school.

The Ministry also clearly stipulates cases where candidates are exempted from the foreign language exam. Students who are members of the national team participating in the International Foreign Language Olympiad or have valid foreign language certificates that are valid until at least June 27 will be exempted from the exam in the consideration of high school graduation recognition.

For English, candidates with a TOEFL ITP certificate of 450 points, TOEFL iBT of 45 points or IELTS of 4.0 are exempted from the Foreign Language exam. Certificates for other languages ​​are specified in the following table:

The 2023 high school graduation exam is expected to take place with more than 1 million candidates participating on June 28-29. Candidates will complete exam registration procedures on June 27.

This year's exam is innovative. Candidates are only allowed to bring into the exam room pens, pencils, compasses, erasers, rulers, calculators without text editing functions, and the Vietnam Geography Atlas when taking the Geography exam.

Thus, students are not allowed to bring any type of recording device, even if it only has the function of recording information, but cannot listen, watch or transmit signals - which is allowed by current regulations.

In addition, instead of allowing candidates to leave the examination area after two-thirds of the essay time has passed, the draft regulations require candidates to remain in the waiting room for the remainder of the examination. They must still submit their papers, test questions, and scratch paper to the invigilator before leaving the room and moving to the waiting room.

In addition, the 2023 high school graduation exam regulations also change the regulations that candidates can register for the exam online, in addition to registering directly at the school where they studied grade 12 as currently; adding priority candidates will be given 0.25 and 0.5 points compared to the old regulations.
