Besides traditional mooncakes from well-known brands like KIDO, Huu Nghi, Bibica, and Thu Huong, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival has seen a surge in high-end, artistic mooncakes that affirm the prestige of gift-giving.
The trend of designing mooncake boxes as decorative works of art is booming in the high-end mooncake market. Major brands are investing heavily in materials such as wood, lacquer, and silk, as well as gold plating, mother-of-pearl inlay, and 3D embossing, creating a luxurious and sophisticated look.
Consumers, especially young people, are quite fond of these products because they make great gifts and the boxes can be reused or used as decorative items in the home.
One of the most unique and unusual mooncake designs is Kinh Do's "Golden Moon, Dragon Fish Gazing at the Moon," packaged in a royal-style lacquer box, containing six premium fillings such as crab, scallop, shrimp, and more, priced at up to 5 million VND per box.
In the same luxury segment, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi introduces a VIP lacquer box containing 6 cakes and tea, with a luxurious design mimicking the hotel's facade, priced at approximately over 6 million VND per box.
Meanwhile, the Hanoi Daewoo Hotel is also not to be outdone with its "Flower Song" gift box set, designed like a fashionable handbag, priced between 1.88 and 1.98 million VND per box.
Alongside luxury, youthful innovations, unique flavors, and the rise of vegan, low-sugar, and eco-friendly packaging products are also making the market vibrant.

Accordingly, Kinh Do's "Lava and Snow" mooncake line, with its molten filling and uniquely cool flavor, is especially popular among young people. Similarly, many brands have launched mooncakes with unique flavors, such as rich and fragrant durian-filled mooncakes; molten salted egg lava mooncakes with a smooth filling; cold mochi (snow skin) mooncakes in matcha, yuzu, and rose flavors; mooncakes with rich and creamy salted egg yolk and truffle cream cheese fillings; and bubble tea mooncakes...
Mr. Tran Le Nguyen, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of KIDO Group, said: "This year, the designs and prices have been diversified to suit many needs, from gifts for partners and employee presents to trial purchases. Currently, we have finalized orders with several large businesses, with orders reaching over 10,000 boxes, and we are continuing to work with our close partners."
Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh, the owner of a mooncake stall on Vu Pham Ham street (Cau Giay ward), said that mooncake prices this year are relatively stable, with not much fluctuation compared to last year. Consumers tend to choose traditional mooncakes, priced at 65,000 - 90,000 VND/cake for mixed fillings and 45,000 - 80,000 VND/cake for sweet fillings. For gifting purposes, customers choose higher-value products.
Strengthen management and protect consumers.
Besides cultural factors, this year's market has witnessed a significant shift in consumer behavior. The spontaneous trend of homemade cakes is gradually declining, mainly due to consumers increasingly focusing on food safety and prioritizing reputable brands with clear origins.

As a result, traditional mooncake brands such as KIDO, Bibica, Hanoi Confectionery, Huu Nghi, Kinh Do, etc., dominate the market with their tightly controlled production processes and systematic investments. These product lines are chosen by many consumers when looking for delicious and safe mooncakes.
From the beginning of the year, the Hanoi People's Committee and the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade directed the development of a plan to inspect and control the market during the Mid-Autumn Festival with the participation of all levels and sectors. According to the Hanoi Market Management Department, through market inspection and control activities, functional forces have promptly detected, prevented, and handled many cases of violations of food safety regulations, especially counterfeit and smuggled goods.
Smuggled mooncakes of unknown origin are subject to mandatory destruction, and production and business establishments that violate food safety regulations will face severe penalties.
With the decisive and coordinated efforts of various forces, this year's mooncake market is expected to be safe and transparent, preventing counterfeit, smuggled, and substandard goods from infiltrating and affecting the health and rights of the people, especially children.
