Besides the traditional mooncake products of famous brands such as KIDO, Huu Nghi, Bibica, Thu Huong… this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival witnessed the explosion of many high-end cakes, artistic and affirming the class of gifts.
The trend of designing mooncake boxes as decorative works is exploding in the high-end cake market. Major brands invest elaborately in materials from wood, lacquer, silk, to gold-plated details, mother-of-pearl inlay or 3D embossed, creating a luxurious and sophisticated look.
Consumers, especially young people, are quite fond of these products, because they can be given as gifts, reused boxes or used as home decorations.
One of the unique mooncake models is Kinh Do's "Golden Moon, Dragon, Fish, and Moon" model. The lacquer box has a royal style, containing 6 types of premium fillings such as crab, clam, shrimp, etc., priced up to 5 million VND/box.
In the same luxury segment, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi introduces a VIP lacquer box of 6 cakes with tea, luxuriously designed to simulate the hotel facade, priced at over 6 million VND/box.
Meanwhile, Hanoi Daewoo Hotel is not far behind with the "Hoa ca" box set, designed like a fashion handbag, priced from 1.88 - 1.98 million VND/box.
Besides luxury, youthful creations, unique flavors and the rise of vegan, low-sugar products with environmentally friendly packaging also make the market more vibrant.

Accordingly, Kinh Do's "Lava and Snow" line of cakes, with melting fillings and a unique cold flavor, is especially popular among young people. Similarly, many brands have launched mooncakes with unique flavors, such as cakes with rich, fragrant durian fillings; melted salted egg lava with smooth fillings; cold mochi (snow skin) with matcha, yuzu, rose flavors...; cakes with salted egg cream cheese and truffle with rich and fatty flavors; pearl milk tea mooncakes...
Mr. Tran Le Nguyen, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of KIDO Group, said: "This year, the designs and prices are diversified to suit many needs, from giving gifts to partners, gifts for employees to buying for trial. Currently, we have closed orders with a number of large enterprises, with orders of up to more than 10,000 boxes and are continuing to work with close partners."
Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh - owner of a cake stall on Vu Pham Ham Street (Cau Giay Ward) said that the price of moon cakes this year is relatively stable, not much fluctuation compared to last year. Consumers tend to choose traditional cakes, priced at 65,000 - 90,000 VND/mixed cake, 45,000 - 80,000 VND/sweet cake. For gift giving needs, customers choose products with higher value.
Tighten management and protect consumers
Besides cultural factors, this year’s market has witnessed a clear change in consumer behavior. The trend of spontaneous “homemade” cakes is gradually declining, mainly because consumers are increasingly paying attention to food safety and prioritizing products with reputable brands and clear origins.

Thanks to that, traditional cake brands such as KIDO, Bibica, Hanoi Candy Cakes, Huu Nghi, Kinh Do… dominate the market with strictly controlled production processes and thorough investment. These product lines are chosen by many consumers when looking for delicious and safe moon cakes.
Right from the beginning of the year, the Hanoi People's Committee and the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade have directed the development of a plan to inspect and control the market during the Mid-Autumn Festival with the participation of all levels and sectors. According to the Hanoi Market Management Department, through market inspection and control activities, the authorities have promptly detected, prevented and handled many cases of violations of food safety regulations, especially counterfeit and smuggled goods.
Smuggled mooncakes of unknown origin are forced to be destroyed, and production and business establishments that violate food safety regulations are severely punished.
With the drastic and synchronous participation of all forces, this year's moon cake market is expected to be safe and transparent, without counterfeit, smuggled, or poor-quality goods infiltrating and affecting the health and rights of people, especially children.
