During the process of building and growing, the Vietnamese Army has sent officers and soldiers many times to carry out noble missions, assisting people of other countries and international friends.

The earthquake in Myanmar four days ago has become a disaster for the country, which is currently experiencing disputes and conflicts. Many countries and international organizations have sent forces, vehicles, and materials to rescue and support.

With the mission of search and rescue, every minute and every second is of life and death significance, Vietnam immediately sent 100 officers and soldiers of the Army and Police to support the search and recovery.

The Military Medical Force consists of 30 members with the main tasks of search and rescue, first aid and transport of deceased victims.

Lieutenant Colonel Lai Ba Thanh (hepatobiliary and pancreatic doctor, Hospital 103, Military Medical Academy) shared that this is the second time the Military Medical Corps has carried out a mission abroad, after the rescue mission in Türkiye.

"At 3:00 p.m. on March 29, immediately after receiving instructions from superiors, the Medical Team quickly prepared forces and equipment. This time was somewhat more special than the mission in Turkey, as the mission was received earlier and was more dangerous. Although both are in the ASEAN bloc, the terrain and weather in Myanmar are different from Vietnam. In addition, the political situation is also complicated," said Lieutenant Colonel Lai Ba Thanh.

Medical soldiers like Lieutenant Colonel Thanh carry two responsibilities: taking care of health and fulfilling military duties. In addition to mastering their own survival skills and rescuing patients, medical soldiers must also be knowledgeable in search and rescue skills and coordinate with other forces.

As for the Engineering Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Trung Dung - Deputy Chief of Staff of Brigade 229, Engineering Corps - said that immediately after the disaster occurred with serious consequences, it was predicted that the neighboring country would need help, so the Vietnamese Engineering Corps determined early on to be ready to accept the mission.

All 30 selected Engineer soldiers are highly qualified, healthy soldiers, and many of them are able to use English to facilitate international communication and coordination. Many officers and soldiers have practical experience participating in rescue operations, some have performed UN peacekeeping missions.

"The comrades participating in this mission have good moral qualities, good professional qualifications and are proficient in using 2-3 pieces of equipment. The Engineering Team that performed the mission in Türkiye also came directly to the unit to exchange more experiences..." - Lieutenant Colonel Tran Trung Dung said.

Vietnamese engineers are equipped with compact handheld devices with very high detection capabilities, such as scanners that can search for victims 15 meters away, 10cm from a wall...

4 forces coordinated rescue

Major General Pham Van Ty, who has experience in providing relief to Türkiye, took on the role of Commander-in-Chief of the entire force. Sharing before departure, he affirmed that "by all means and experience, we must find as many victims as possible, especially survivors."

He expressed, "This is an extremely painful disaster for your country. Each member of the rescue team determined that going to Myanmar to carry out the task is a noble mission, finding people in the rubble as if they were looking for their own relatives, and considering it as their own people, their own country."

Regarding the difficulties, Major General Pham Van Ty identified the language barrier. At the same time, there has not been a survey in Myanmar to assess and conclude. In particular, aftershocks from the earthquake may continue to occur.

He emphasized the view that rescue forces "do not just stand by and observe but are ready to accept the dangers that may come."

The command and control unit will direct the entire search operation. The dog team is an important force in searching for survivors and bodies.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien encouraged the Army and Police forces.

From here, the Engineer force will use specialized equipment such as wall-penetrating radar to accurately determine the victim's location.

After taking the victim out, the field emergency team led by the Army Medical Corps will take care of the patient, provide first aid and treatment. The Army Medical Corps is fully qualified in internal and surgical medicine and can handle all emergency situations.

Sharing his experience from the rescue in Türkiye, Major General Pham Van Ty said that when rescue forces from other countries were injured, our military medical team also provided initial treatment and free medicine.
