Swiss sports lawyer Serg Vittoz, legal representative of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), affirmed that the organization "did not commit any wrongdoing" in the player registration process and submitted an appeal to FIFA on time on October 14, 18 days after the decision was issued (September 26).
"We have been informed that the FIFA Appeal Committee will make a decision on October 30, and the results can be communicated to the parties on the same day or a few days later," Vittoz said. "If FAM or the players are not satisfied with the decision, we have the right to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This process will take some time."
Meanwhile, the national team's Executive Director Rob Friend appeared for the first time after nearly 3 weeks of silence, to clarify that he was not involved in verifying the documents of the 7 players under investigation. He affirmed that the team department is only responsible for technical skills, tactics and performance, while all records and registration procedures are handled by FAM.
Until now, FAM has kept the family background of the 7 players confidential to avoid affecting the ongoing investigation. October 30 will be the decisive moment. Either the group of players will have their bans lifted and return to competition or they will continue the legal battle with FAM at a higher level.
