The public wants to have access to more positive information.
Digital technology has fundamentally changed the way people access information. With just a smartphone, the public can access many different press, media, and social media channels with diverse information, many different perspectives, comments, and even information just to attract views, create public opinion, even with bad intentions...
Having a son who is in the "final" stage of preparing for the national high school exam and choosing a career for the future, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Hien Nam ward (Hung Yen city) is very concerned about finding information on how to take care of her son's health, help him choose a suitable major, choose a teacher, choose a school... After many days of being "surrounded" by a "matrix" of information from his son's teachers, colleagues, groups, social networks... finally, Ms. Thuy focused on reading guidance documents from the Ministry of Education and Training , the province and mainstream press sites such as: Nhan Dan Newspaper, Hung Yen Newspaper, Education and Times Newspaper... Ms. Thuy said: Through a number of newspapers, TV channels and press works, dialogue programs published and broadcast at important times with multi-dimensional information, information providers are experts, managers, along with scientific analysis and commentary to help my son confidently choose his future career path and feel secure in studying and preparing good for the exam
In particular, in the past time, when voters and people agreed to support the work of arranging and streamlining the apparatus of the political system and arranging administrative units, a lot of fake and untrue information was spread on the internet, causing a part of the people to misunderstand and doubt the revolution in the apparatus of the Party and State. The TV channel and publications of Hung Yen Newspaper had columns, topics, and articles analyzing and providing multi-dimensional information to protect the ideological foundation of the Party, contributing to helping audiences and readers from correct perception to consensus and support for this important policy.
Mr. Vu Huu Tien, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Phan Boi Residential Group, Di Su Ward (My Hao Town) said: Thanks to official documents from the Internal Notice, Party newspapers... help cadres and Party members clearly understand information to propagate and explain to the People. Not only in the arrangement and organization of the apparatus, but also in many areas such as: Site clearance, new rural construction, implementation of campaigns, emulation movements... the press also provides timely, complete, accurate information, conveying positive information.
As a reader, Ms. Le Thi Mai Phuong, General Director of Phuong Dong Production and Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Minh Duc Industrial Park) expressed: In the face of the recent "information crisis" related to celebrities; fake pharmaceuticals, functional foods, dirty foods; information about the US announcing the decision to impose reciprocal taxes on Vietnam's export goods; the removal of lump-sum taxes for business households with large revenues, many people have negative thoughts. We, businesses, entrepreneurs, and legitimate business households, really need press agencies with their own advantages to provide multi-dimensional information; analyze and comment on the basis of theory, law and practice to help us understand the problem correctly; produce and do business legally, effectively and confidently overcome difficulties, and integrate the country into the international economy.
In the current context, when information is flooded and changes every hour, the public not only needs to know: Who, what, where, how... but also wants the press to accompany them in finding out the causes and orienting their actions. Therefore, the requirements for journalists do not stop at "reporting news" but the information must be fast, accurate, profound and responsible. For example, reporting on child abuse, the public needs journalists and newspapers to fight and condemn depraved and dangerous acts; help the public gain knowledge and experience to recognize and help their children and siblings avoid risks, but must comply with regulations on protecting the rights of women and children, including protecting the identity and future of victims.
Responsibility of journalists
Faced with controversial issues and conflicting opinions, readers often turn to newspapers and mainstream media channels for information. Therefore, in order to bring useful, constructive and positive information to the public, journalists need to be professionally competent, understand the law, and especially understand the industry and field that the press needs to reflect/the issue that public opinion is interested in. When the press brings the public useful information and quality spiritual food, the public's trust and choice will increase.
From the perspective of the state press management agency, Ms. Bui Thi Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: Currently, information is diverse, the public accesses information from many different sources, this requires journalists to demonstrate strong political will, clear professional ethics, good expertise and high social responsibility. In the context of digital transformation and deep integration, journalists must quickly update new technology, innovate reporting methods, proactively propagate, orient public opinion, refute false information, contribute to building a modern, humane press, effectively serving the development of the province and the country.
Modern journalism is a multi-platform ecosystem. The mainstream press must compete in terms of information with social networks to “please” public tastes, while also fulfilling political duties, protecting the Party’s ideological foundation, contributing to preserving and promoting the country’s cultural values and identity. This requires journalists to change their mindset, master technology and journalism skills, and have a high sense of social responsibility.
Journalist Tran Ngoc Long, Head of Communications - Multimedia Department, Vietnamplus Online Newspaper (Vietnam News Agency) said: Today's public prefers visual, interactive and multi-platform journalism. If journalists do not learn and editorial offices do not innovate, they will not be able to retain readers and will lose the noble role and responsibility that society has entrusted to them.
