TPO – Today (September 20), heavy rain continues in the provinces from Quang Binh to Thanh Hoa, focusing on the southern region from Nghe An to Quang Binh. Floods have appeared on the Gianh River, causing inundation of low-lying areas along the river.

Last night and early this morning (September 20), the area from Nghe An to Northern Quang Tri had heavy to very heavy rain.

Rainfall from 7pm on September 19 to 3am on September 20 was over 100mm in some places, such as Hoa Thanh (Quang Binh) 237.6mm, Hien Luong (Quang Tri) 137.6mm, Huong Lam ( Ha Tinh ) 110.4mm.

Forecast today and tonight, September 20, the areas of Southern Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 70-150mm, some places over 250mm.

Thanh Hoa and Northern Nghe An areas will have moderate to heavy rain, locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 40-80mm, locally over 150mm. From September 21, heavy rain in these areas will gradually decrease.

Due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, there is a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas, landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas of provinces from Nghe An to Quang Tri.

The real-time flash flood and landslide warning information system (http://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn/) maintains the purple warning level (highest warning level) in mountainous areas of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces this morning, with some warning points in Nghe An at the yellow level (high risk).

In Quang Binh, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, the flood on Gianh River is rising rapidly and is below the alarm level (AL)2. The water level at 1:00 a.m. this morning on Gianh River at Dong Tam station was 12.90m, 0.10m below AL2; at Mai Hoa station it was 4.28m, 0.72m below AL2.

It is forecasted that today, the flood on Gianh River will continue to rise, peaking at level BĐ2-BĐ3, then receding, causing flooding in low-lying areas along the river, affecting activities such as waterway transportation, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's lives and socio-economic activities.

High risk of landslides in mountainous areas, riverbank landslides, localized flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in Quang Binh province.

In the midlands and deltas of the North, Phu Tho, and South Son La, there will also be scattered showers and thunderstorms today and tonight, with some places experiencing heavy rain with rainfall from 15-30mm, and some places experiencing over 60mm.

The Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with some places experiencing heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, and some places over 50mm. Thunderstorms are likely to cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
