Super lotus, white Quan Am, Surface and Van Dai 1 lotus are suitable for soil conditions and have potential for tourism development in Hai Duong . This is the preliminary assessment of the Center for Research and Development of Flowers and Ornamental Plants after 1 year of implementing the topic: "Research on selection and construction of a model for planting some lotus varieties associated with tourism development in Hai Duong province" in Chi Lang Nam commune (Thanh Mien).
Specifically, the Center for Research and Development of Flowers and Ornamental Plants has tested planting more than 1,500 m2 of 4 lotus varieties including: Super lotus for flowers, White Quan Am lotus for shoots, Mat Bang lotus for seeds and Van Dai 1 lotus for tubers. In addition to researching lotus varieties with potential for development, the research team also completed the technical process of breeding, planting, caring for and processing some products from these lotus varieties to suit the conditions of Hai Duong.
As a result, after 1 year, the group of authors has built a process, planting and harvesting techniques (from March to November) suitable for Hai Duong conditions. Completed the process of processing lotus seeds, lotus shoots, lotus roots, and lotus flowers.
In addition to the center's experimental planting area, people also grow lotus in this area with an area of about 3 hectares. The lotus growing area is only a few hundred meters from the Stork Island eco-tourism area. It is estimated that lotus products bring in a profit of about 2 million VND/sao, 3 times higher than rice cultivation. In addition to lotus products, these lotus varieties also attract a large number of tourists to visit and experience.
In the coming time, the research team will continue to conduct experiments to perfect the technical process of breeding, planting, caring, harvesting, and processing some lotus products associated with tourism development in Hai Duong.
Hai Duong has favorable conditions for agricultural development associated with ecotourism development, especially in the Stork Island area, Chi Lang Nam commune. This is an ecotourism destination that attracts a large number of visitors, but there are many low-lying fields here, and farming efficiency is not high. Planting lotus will bring many benefits such as providing a living environment and food source for the storks, while bringing economic efficiency to the people and attracting tourists.
