BHG - On the morning of September 19, comrade Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, led the delegation and its members to visit and inspect the work of overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 in our province. Attending and working with the delegation were comrade Hoang Gia Long, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The circulation of storm No. 3 caused heavy rain, flash floods, landslides and inundation in many localities in the province, killing 1 person, missing 1 person, and injuring 1 person; more than 1,407 houses were affected, of which 184 houses were urgently evacuated, 28 houses were swept away and completely buried; over 2,100 hectares of rice, corn, crops and plants were affected; 11 districts and cities had landslides; many irrigation works and schools were damaged. The total damage was about 141 billion VND. Regarding the work of responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, Ha Giang promptly issued directives; postponed and suspended meetings and conferences that were not really urgent, mobilizing the entire political system to focus on stabilizing people's lives. Quang Binh district was the most severely damaged locality in storm No. 3, with more than 330 households in the district suffering damage to their houses; Dozens of traffic routes on National Highway 279, Provincial Road 183 and routes to commune and village centers were damaged; in particular, 105 households in Yen Thanh, Bang Lang, Tan Trinh and Tien Nguyen communes still cannot return home due to the risk of landslides.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam acknowledged that the Party Committee, authorities and people have proactively taken measures to minimize damage to people and property. At the same time, he requested that the province and district conduct geological surveys and put up warning signs in areas at high risk of landslides; pay attention to support and arrange absolutely no households to lack accommodation, food or essential necessities. For households that cannot return home due to the risk of landslides, the Deputy Minister requested that the province and district study and re-arrange and stabilize the population in a mixed manner. The Deputy Minister also assigned departments, offices and the Central Agricultural Extension Center to support Quang Binh province and district in carrying out key tasks and solutions to urgently overcome the consequences of storm No. 3, quickly stabilize the people's situation, promote production recovery, and ensure livelihoods for people in affected areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Gia Long, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, thanked the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for their concern, encouragement and sharing difficulties with the ethnic people of Ha Giang. At the same time, he accepted the instructions and quickly implemented the work of stabilizing the population, and promptly overcame the consequences of natural disasters caused by storm No. 3.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Gia Long surveyed the landslide area and visited and encouraged households affected by storm No. 3 in Dong Tam village, Yen Thanh commune (Quang Binh). At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded 200 million VND to Yen Thanh commune to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters; 2,500 liters of chemicals, 200 kg of biological products and agricultural extension documents providing technical guidance on restoring production after storms and floods for Quang Binh district.
