On the morning of November 14, the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with Long An province to organize the Long An 2024 Import-Export Goods Supply Chain Connection Conference.

At the conference, Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, said that in 2024, despite many challenges from climate change, geopolitical tensions and rising transportation costs, Vietnam will still achieve impressive import-export achievements. In the first 10 months of the year, import-export turnover is estimated at 646 billion USD, up 15.5% over the same period in 2023, with positive contributions from many key products.

Faced with common challenges, Long An has proactively adapted and promoted trade activities to expand the market. With a strategic location connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, Long An plays an important role in the national supply chain. The province's key products such as agricultural products, processed foods, wooden furniture and textiles have contributed greatly to the province's export achievements. In addition, the province has invested heavily in transport infrastructure, improved transport capacity, reduced logistics costs and implemented many trade promotion activities.

Following the success of last year's Conference, this year's Conference gathered nearly 100 foreign enterprises, Vietnamese Trade Offices in many countries, large retail corporations and nearly 100 typical enterprises of Long An.

"This is a valuable opportunity for Long An businesses to exploit the market, grasp international standards, and approach domestic and international distributors. I expect that the discussion and connection sessions at the conference will not only help promote Long An products and investment environment but also open up sustainable partnerships, expand existing supply chains and build new chains, bringing Long An and Vietnamese products to the global level," said Ms. Thang.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade also pledged to continue supporting Long An province and local businesses to remove difficulties, promote international trade, and ensure sustainability for the supply chain.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam, Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee, commented that after the success of the Long An Export Promotion and Trade Connection Conference 2023, the province welcomed many international business delegations seeking cooperation opportunities.

Up to now, Long An continues to attract investment and increase import and export with many positive results. Currently, the province has 19,245 enterprises, with a total registered capital of over 390 trillion VND, of which 2,244 domestic projects account for over 473 trillion VND.

In the first 10 months of 2024 alone, the province attracted 95 FDI projects with registered capital of more than 640 million USD, bringing the total number of FDI projects to 1,366 with registered capital of over 12.5 billion USD, ranking in the top 10 nationwide in FDI attraction.

Regarding import and export, Long An achieved a turnover of about 10.7 billion USD in the first 10 months of 2024. Exports reached 6.5 billion USD, up 15.7% over the same period; imports reached 4.2 billion USD, up 16.9%. It is expected that for the whole year, exports will reach 7.5 billion USD and imports will reach 5.4 billion USD. These figures, along with the expanding industrial scale, affirm that Long An is a large market for domestic and foreign enterprises.

In the context of the global economy still facing many difficulties and market demand not yet strongly recovering, Vietnamese enterprises, especially import-export enterprises, face many challenges in production, business and finding partners.

" Organizing trade connection activities between Long An suppliers and export enterprises and trade promotion organizations is practical and meaningful," said Mr. Lam, hoping that the conference will be a bridge to help trade promotion organizations, distribution systems, business associations and enterprises meet and access useful information to develop business strategies... Thereby helping Long An achieve the export target of 7.5 billion USD in 2024 and create momentum for development in the following years.
