(MPI) - On August 12, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung received a delegation of US and European businesses led by Mr. David Lewis, Chairman and CEO of Energy Capital Vietnam.

Attending the reception were representatives of Trinity Investment Management; Flanders Trade and Investment Office in Vietnam; Saigon Telecommunication Technology Joint Stock Company (Saigontel) and representatives of leaders of a number of units under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung welcomed the US and European business delegation to visit and work at the Ministry of Planning and Investment; at the same time, welcomed and highly appreciated the effective investment and business activities of partners globally in general and in Vietnam in particular.

Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung said that energy cooperation, especially energy for sustainable development, has been identified as an important pillar in the Joint Statement on upgrading relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States during President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam in September 2023.

At the same time, he added that developing seaports and logistics are also priority areas of the Vietnamese Government . Recently, Vietnam approved the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII) and the Master Plan for the Development of Vietnam's Seaport System for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

The plan to implement the 8th Power Plan has outlined a list of projects, including power projects using liquefied natural gas (LNG), firmly ensuring national energy security, meeting the requirements of socio -economic development and industrialization and modernization of the country; Successfully implementing equitable energy transition associated with production modernization, building smart grids, advanced power system management, in line with the world's green transformation trend, emission reduction, and science and technology development; Forming a comprehensive energy industry ecosystem based on renewable energy and new energy.

On behalf of the members of the delegation, Mr. David Lewis thanked Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung for taking the time to welcome them; the members of the delegation also informed about the functions and fields of the companies. In particular, Energy Capital Vietnam is a US private investment and fund management company, focusing on investment, fund management, infrastructure and energy; Trinity Investment Management is a US-based investment consulting company focusing on infrastructure and energy. The Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority is the port infrastructure management agency under the Government of the Flanders Region (Belgium), currently managing the Port clusters of Antwerp and Bruges (the largest export port in Europe).

The business delegation discussed the potential for investment cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors in Vietnam; expressed their desire to learn about regulations and procedures for approving investment policies in seaports in Vietnam for projects proposed by investors; affirmed their desire to learn about and realize investment opportunities and committed to comply with Vietnamese laws.

Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung also emphasized the issue related to the legal corridor for electricity using liquefied natural gas; about Ba Ria - Vung Tau Seaport, including Long Son wharf area, a special seaport, planned to serve not only the socio-economic development of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province but also for the region and the country. This is a large general port, with a very important role and position and the potential to develop infrastructure connecting Vietnam with the world. Investors are required to have not only financial potential but also implementation capacity, and gas sources that ensure competitiveness.

Deputy Minister Do Thanh Trung hopes that US and European enterprises will continue to closely coordinate with relevant ministries, branches and localities to study and expand investment in Vietnam, especially in LNG power projects; propose specific projects, apply modern management technology, enhance technology transfer, develop an industrial ecosystem associated with logistics infrastructure in Vietnam. At the same time, he affirmed that the Ministry of Planning and Investment is always ready to support and closely coordinate to create favorable conditions for foreign investors in general, including US and European enterprises in particular, to invest and do business effectively in Vietnam./.
