Prime Minister requests to strengthen the prevention and control of dengue fever

Currently is the peak season of dengue fever.

Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease that is prevalent in Vietnam. Since the beginning of 2025, dengue fever cases have been recorded in all provinces and cities across the country, of which in the southern region, the number of cases increased by 30% compared to the same period in 2024; some localities have had deaths.

This is currently the peak period, and there is a potential risk of an increase in the number of cases during the back-to-school season and during upcoming major national events.

To strengthen the prevention and control of dengue fever, proactively control the situation, and prevent the disease from breaking out and spreading widely, in the Official Dispatch sent to the Chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities; Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Ministers of Health, Finance, Culture, Sports and Tourism, Education and Training, National Defense, Public Security; General Director of Vietnam Television; Voice of Vietnam ; Vietnam News Agency; Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper; People's Army; People's Public Security, the Prime Minister requested:

1. Chairman of People's Committee of provinces and centrally-run cities:

a) Resolutely direct the work of preventing and controlling dengue fever to ensure smooth, effective, and uninterrupted implementation of the two-level local government model and be responsible to the Prime Minister for the work of preventing and controlling dengue fever in particular and the work of preventing and controlling epidemics in general in the area.

b) Mobilize departments, branches, unions and political and socio-political organizations to participate in propaganda and mobilize people to resolutely implement environmental sanitation campaigns, destroy larvae and mosquitoes in the area and implement disease prevention and control measures according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health ; strengthen inspection and sanction organizations and individuals who do not implement disease prevention and control measures according to the provisions of law.

c) Direct the Department of Health and local medical facilities to coordinate with the People's Committees at the commune level to proactively and closely monitor the epidemic situation, implement prevention and control measures according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health; proactively detect early, provide emergency care and timely treatment to patients, minimize deaths, thoroughly handle outbreaks as soon as they are detected; proactively prepare and allocate sufficient resources for dengue fever prevention and control.

2. Ministry of Health:

a) Direct, guide and inspect localities on monitoring, detecting, handling outbreaks, preventive measures, treatment and ensuring resources for preventing and controlling dengue fever.

b) Organize training and provide technical support for grassroots medical staff; direct the implementation of referral, admission and treatment, avoid overload at higher levels to minimize deaths.

c) Proactively coordinate closely and promptly handle any problems arising in localities in disease prevention and control when implementing the 2-level local government model, ensuring smooth, effective, and uninterrupted implementation of assigned tasks.

3. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency, Nhan Dan Newspaper, People's Army Newspaper, People's Police Newspaper and other news and press agencies closely coordinate with the Ministry of Health to promote communication activities, provide complete and timely information on the situation and measures to prevent and control the epidemic so that people can proactively apply and promptly go to medical facilities for examination and treatment when showing signs of illness.

4. The Ministry of Education and Training directs educational institutions to proactively and actively participate in environmental sanitation activities, mosquito and larvae eradication; and effectively implement epidemic prevention and control measures according to the guidance of the health sector.

5. The Ministry of Finance shall preside over and coordinate with ministries, agencies and localities to arrange and ensure sufficient funding for dengue fever prevention and control in accordance with regulations, in a cost-effective and efficient manner, and to avoid waste.

6. The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security, according to their functions, tasks and authorities, shall coordinate with ministries, branches and local authorities to prevent and control dengue fever for the people.

7. Propose that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations coordinate with authorities at all levels to proactively and actively mobilize people to participate in activities to prevent and control dengue fever in the community according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.
