Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister met the press to announce the results of the talks.

At the press conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh once again warmly welcomed the Prime Minister to his official visit to Vietnam; he said that the visit is of great significance, taking place in the year when the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023) and the 5th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2018-2023), creating new momentum for the Vietnam - Australia Strategic Partnership to develop to new heights.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the two Prime Ministers had just had a very successful meeting. In the spirit of openness, frankness, sincerity and trust, the two sides comprehensively reviewed all areas of cooperation and were pleased to see that the bilateral relationship is developing well and effectively.

The two Prime Ministers noted that political trust, understanding and mutual respect have been increasingly strengthened through regular high-level delegation exchanges and contacts between leaders and people of the two countries. Economic and trade cooperation has become a bright spot in bilateral relations with two-way trade turnover in 2022 reaching nearly 16 billion USD, an increase of nearly 30% compared to 2021. Security and defense cooperation has become increasingly effective and substantive, especially in the field of United Nations peacekeeping. Cooperation in education - training, agriculture, tourism, culture, labor, science - technology, innovation, etc. has achieved positive results with many effective cooperation programs and projects. The two countries also share a common vision for a peaceful, stable, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region; valuing the central role of ASEAN.

The two Prime Ministers agreed on directions for promoting cooperation in the coming time to enhance political trust, contribute to the recovery of each country's socio-economic development as well as effectively coordinate in responding to global challenges. In particular, the two sides will further enhance political trust through delegation exchanges, high-level and all-level contacts, deploy bilateral cooperation mechanisms; continue to deepen the content of the strategic partnership towards a new height in the coming time; further promote the substantive results in defense - security cooperation, actively discuss to soon sign the Agreement on peacekeeping partnership; closely cooperate in preventing and combating transnational crimes, cyber crimes and other types of crimes...

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the two sides agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Vietnam-Australia Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES) for the 2021-2025 period, striving to bring two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD soon in the coming time and double the current two-way investment level; strengthen connectivity between the two economies, including hard connections in transportation, soft connections such as finance, banking, e-commerce; encourage the business communities of the two countries to increase investment in each country. Australia continues to facilitate Vietnamese agricultural products to enter the Australian market to balance trade.

The two Prime Ministers also agreed to promote cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries, encourage major Australian universities to develop activities in Vietnam to support and cooperate with Vietnam in training high-quality human resources - one of Vietnam's three strategic breakthroughs; further strengthen cooperation in tourism, cultural exchange and people-to-people exchanges; agree to discuss and sign a cooperation agreement on tourism. Vietnam asked Australia to continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Australia to successfully integrate, make practical contributions to Australia's socio-economic development and become a bridge of friendship in the relationship between the two countries.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to expand cooperation in responding to climate change, digital transformation, green transformation and developing a circular economy. Australia will support Vietnam in its energy transition to help Vietnam achieve its commitment to net zero emissions. The two sides agreed to soon sign a cooperation document in the field of digital transformation, building a digital economy and digital society.

Vietnam and Australia continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, ASEAN and ASEAN-led mechanisms; promote dialogue, build trust, encourage countries to dialogue and cooperate for common goals, ensuring ASEAN's central role; strengthen cooperation within the framework of Mekong Sub-region mechanisms in promoting investment; Australia identifies Vietnam as playing a central role in ASEAN.

At the talks, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respect for international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS. The two sides agreed to continue to maintain exchanges, share information and enhance maritime cooperation.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his invitation and warm welcome; saying that this was his first visit to Vietnam as Prime Minister, contributing to promoting and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Australian Prime Minister expressed his delight that after 50 years of continuous development of the relationship between the two countries, Vietnam has become one of the countries with leading production capacity in the world. During that process, Australia has cooperated and supported Vietnam with many practical projects such as building bridges in the Mekong Delta, clean water projects, education and training, etc.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue promoting cooperation in various areas, especially in addressing security and climate change challenges. Australia will support Vietnam in energy transition, including providing Vietnam with 105 million AUD for sustainable development planning, clean energy development and mining; and expanding the support program for Vietnam in the agricultural sector.

The Head of the Australian Government was pleased to witness the exchange of four cooperation agreements in various fields between the two countries' agencies; RMIT University has just opened an Innovation Center in Vietnam; Western Sydney University offers 60 scholarships to Vietnamese students... Meanwhile, the community of more than 300,000 Vietnamese people in Australia also contributes to the socio-economic development of Australia and fosters the relationship between the two countries; Vietnamese airlines continue to open flights from Vietnam to Australia, including Vietjet Air opening a flight to Brisbane, the host of the 2032 Olympics...

According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, at the talks, the two sides agreed to support each other in multilateral forums, attach importance to the central role of ASEAN; wish to maintain peace and development in the region and the world, ensure security, prosperity and sustainability, on the basis of upholding the independence, autonomy, sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to pay an official visit to Australia and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh happily accepted.

Following the Australian Prime Minister's speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Australian Government and people for providing financial aid for Vietnam's sustainable development during his visit; he said that, building on the achievements of 50 years of good relations between the two countries, Vietnam is ready to join Australia in a new phase of cooperation, together bringing the strategic partnership to a new level, practical and effective, for the practical benefits of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

* Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries, including: Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology on cooperation in science, technology and innovation; Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on establishing a Vietnam-Australia Ministerial Dialogue on Trade; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) on cooperation in exchanging financial intelligence related to money laundering and terrorist financing; Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) on granting 70 scholarships to Vietnamese and regional students to study at the UWS campus in Vietnam.

Also here, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Vietnam Airlines received the certificate and announced the opening of the Hanoi - Melbourne route. Vietjet Air received the certificate and announced the direct flight connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Brisbane (Australia). After Melbourne and Sydney, this is the third city in Australia that Vietjet has direct flights to, and is also the first route connecting Vietnam with Brisbane city and Queensland state, with a frequency of 2 round trips per week.

The two Prime Ministers visited the photo exhibition about the country, people and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Australia, organized by the Vietnam News Agency in coordination with the Government Office in the main hall of the Government Headquarters building.
