The nightmare from the 2023 Women's World Cup final almost came back to haunt the "Three Lions" girls when they faced Spain at this Euro.
Two years ago, England lost 0-1 and watched Spain win the title. History seemed to repeat itself when the Spanish women's team, with their superior possession play, created an overwhelming game, causing many difficulties for the team from the foggy country.

The match at Jakob Park (Switzerland) was extremely tense. Spain controlled more than 60% of the match and was the team to take the lead after Mariona Caldentey's header in the 25th minute.
In the 57th minute, Alessia Russo of England equalized with a delicate header from Kelly's pass. After 120 minutes without any more goals, the match was decided on penalties.
Here, England fans had another heart attack when Beth Mead missed her first shot. However, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton made two excellent saves, leaving Spain with only one successful shot in three shots.

England's Williamson missed in the fourth round but Spain's Salma Paralluelo also missed. Chloe Kelly then converted in the fifth round, helping England win 3-1 in the penalty shootout and successfully defend their Euro women's title.
With this victory, the England women's team became the second team to successfully defend the European championship after the German team. Coach Sarina Wiegman and her students have affirmed the leading position of English women's football at the present time.
