Promoting digital transformation and e-commerce in the Northern Midlands and Mountains

On the afternoon of May 24, in Lai Chau, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) organized the Workshop "Digital Transformation and E-commerce in the Northern Midlands and Mountains" - an event in a series of activities to promote regional connectivity and enhance regional products.

The workshop is an activity in a series of events promoting regional connectivity and e-commerce development taking place in Lai Chau .

Attending the workshop were representatives from the provinces of the Northern Midlands and Mountains, Kien Giang , Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Thai Nguyen provinces; e-commerce enterprises, associations, businesses and a large number of cooperatives, OCOP entities, organizations and business individuals nationwide.

The Northern Midlands and Mountains are home to a large number of ethnic minorities. This region has many unique agricultural products, valuable medicinal herbs, traditional handicrafts and unique cultural values. However, this is also a region with many difficulties in terms of geographical conditions, transport infrastructure, logistics, access to technology and quality of human resources.

Currently, digital transformation and e-commerce are two complementary pillars, clearly demonstrating the orientation of innovative thinking, promoting creativity and expanding the space for regional economic development in the digital age.

Therefore, to effectively promote existing potentials and shorten the development gap between regions, promoting digital transformation and developing e-commerce in the Northern Midlands and Mountains is extremely urgent. This is a solution to support production development, expand product consumption, and create conditions for people in the highlands to gradually access the digital economy, digital knowledge and digital services.

Delegates attending the workshop shared, oriented, and provided solutions to build a foundation for a sustainable regional e-commerce ecosystem.

The workshop is also an opportunity to concretize Resolution No. 57/NQ-CP dated May 4, 2024 of the Government on the National Strategy on Digital Transformation to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and at the same time implement Decision No. 146/QD-TTg dated January 28, 2022 of the Prime Minister approving the Project on raising awareness, popularizing skills and developing human resources for national digital transformation to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

At the workshop, experts and delegates focused on sharing and orienting 4 key groups of solutions to build a foundation for a sustainable regional e-commerce ecosystem, contributing to promoting economic growth and comprehensive digital transformation in the Northern Midlands and Mountains.

Of which, 4 groups of solutions include: Completing mechanisms, policies and orientations for e-commerce development associated with digital transformation in mountainous areas; Applying digital technology suitable to local conditions, supporting product development, traceability and market connection; Improving logistics infrastructure capacity and digital distribution, ensuring access to e-commerce services for businesses, cooperatives and production households in remote areas; Developing local digital human resources, improving digital skills for people, businesses and local management teams.

Digital transformation and e-commerce are two complementary pillars, promoting the expansion of regional economic development space in the digital age.

According to a representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, one of the key factors for successful digital transformation and e-commerce development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region is to strengthen regional connectivity in e-commerce development.

The workshop was organized with the desire to become an open, practical forum for provinces in the region to share implementation experiences, good models, creative approaches, as well as difficulties and obstacles in the process of digital transformation and e-commerce development in their localities. Technology enterprises introduced new solutions and platforms, suitable to the characteristics and needs of the region. Manufacturers and cooperatives had the opportunity to access information, find partners, learn from experiences to boldly apply digital technology and e-commerce.
