Hydroelectric power plant discharges floodwaters, many areas are heavily flooded

In recent days, many hydroelectric reservoirs in Lam Dong have continuously increased the water discharge level through the spillway, especially from last night to this morning (November 20), causing many low-lying areas near rivers and streams to be flooded, causing severe damage.

On the morning of November 20, the flow into Dai Ninh Lake was 2,070m3/s. The Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Company increased the flow through the spillway of Dai Ninh Lake from 2,000m3/s to 2,070m3/s. The sudden large amount of water flowing downstream caused many low-lying areas, near rivers and streams to rise and flow rapidly, flooding thousands of families.

Thousands of families in D'ran commune, Lam Dong province were deeply submerged in water.

According to the People's Committee of Ninh Gia Commune, Lam Dong Province, Dai Ninh, Ninh Thien, Thien Chi, and Tan Phu villages are currently being flooded by floodwaters. Since last night, the local government has mobilized all local forces to assist people in evacuating people and property to safety.

Ninh Gia Commune People's Committee has banned people from organizing agricultural production activities in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams.

In particular, at 10am on November 20, Dai Ninh Hydropower Plant increased its discharge to 2,200m3/s. This continues to increase the risk of widespread flooding downstream.

Thousands of families in Ninh Gia commune, downstream of Dai Ninh hydropower plant, are deeply submerged in water.

Similarly, over the past two days, prolonged heavy rains have caused the Da Nhim hydropower reservoir to continuously raise its spillway discharge level. This morning, large amounts of water from the spillway of this hydropower reservoir rushed downstream, causing serious flooding in many areas of D'ran commune and along the Da Nhim river towards Hiep Thanh and Duc Trong communes.

Floodwaters rose very quickly, causing particularly serious flooding in Ninh Gia commune.

That same night, D'ran Commune Police and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of Lam Dong Province Police coordinated with local forces to promptly evacuate families in the affected and flooded areas to safety.

No human casualties have been recorded due to the floods, but many houses, crops and other properties of thousands of households in Lam Dong have been affected and damaged, causing extremely severe damage.

Currently, water from hydroelectric dams is pouring in very large quantities, many low-lying areas, near rivers and streams downstream are flooded very quickly.
