Staff of Van An Commune Health Station, Chi Lang District, vaccinate children in the expanded immunization program.
On the morning of April 21, at the Van An Commune Health Station, a third-zone commune of Chi Lang District, many people brought their children to get vaccinated according to schedule. The reception, screening, vaccination and post-vaccination monitoring areas were arranged reasonably, making it convenient for people to get vaccinated. Medical staff gave enthusiastic instructions, checked vaccination records and provided thorough advice on post-vaccination reactions and how to monitor children's health at home.
Doctor Lang Van Tich, Head of Van An Commune Health Station, said: Implementing the expanded immunization program, we regularly review and proactively grasp the data of children who are at vaccination age, regularly update the list of newborns or children who have not received enough doses; promote, advise, and answer questions so that parents can rest assured and take their children for full vaccination on the 20th and 21st of each month. At the same time, we pay attention to strictly implementing regulations on vaccination safety, vaccine preservation, and post-vaccination monitoring and treatment.
Along with Van An commune, the expanded vaccination work has been carried out by 100% of commune, ward and town health stations. From the beginning of the year, the units have reviewed the list of children at vaccination age, made detailed plans for each month, organized periodic vaccination on a fixed day and increased propaganda in many appropriate forms. Through loudspeakers, community zalo groups, village health workers , people know the vaccination schedule, clearly understand the benefits of each type of vaccine, and bring their children to get vaccinated on schedule and with enough doses.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, a parent of a young child in Tam Thanh ward, Lang Son city, said: I was reminded of my child's vaccination schedule very clearly by medical staff, and was also given detailed advice on each type of vaccine. My child has been closely monitored since birth, and has had no serious reactions, so my family is very reassured. Vaccination has now become an important family habit to protect children from dangerous diseases.
Along with Ms. Hien's family, more and more parents are proactively cooperating with medical staff to get their children vaccinated on schedule, without waiting or missing shots. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has 2,168/2,262 children of all ages fully vaccinated, reaching 95.8%, a sharp increase compared to the same period in 2024 (80.9%).
Mr. Phan Lac Hoai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, affirmed: Vaccination is not only a right but also a responsibility to protect children and the community from dangerous infectious diseases. Therefore, the Department of Health directs units to regularly review and arrange enough vaccines for vaccination facilities. At the same time, direct affiliated units to carefully review cases that have not been fully vaccinated to propagate to families to bring their children to health stations for full vaccination.
In particular, along with regular vaccination, medical facilities in the area have implemented vaccination campaigns well. Most recently, in March 2025, the measles vaccination campaign was deployed on a province-wide scale with the rate of children vaccinated against measles reaching 97.3%, exceeding the set target (over 95%).
To ensure safe and effective vaccination, the Provincial Center for Disease Control annually organizes training courses to improve professional capacity for vaccination staff. Since the beginning of 2025, the center has organized specialized training courses on expanded vaccination management for 50 trainees who are full-time staff and clinical staff in charge of vaccination rooms in districts and cities. Thanks to that, in recent years, the province has not recorded any serious adverse events after vaccination.
With the above positive results, the rate of full vaccination for children of the right age in Lang Son is currently in the top 10/28 northern provinces, thereby helping to effectively control dangerous infectious diseases, contributing significantly to preventing widespread outbreaks. In particular, while measles outbreaks occurred in some provinces and cities, Lang Son was still among the top localities with good control with a low number of cases (59 cases).
In the coming time, the provincial health sector will continue to implement synchronous and drastic measures, striving to achieve the goal of becoming one of the 10 provinces and cities with the highest rate of fully vaccinated children in the country by 2025, aiming to build a healthy and safe community, reducing the rate of morbidity and mortality caused by infectious diseases.
