What are the tourism development advantages of French colonial architectural works in Ho Chi Minh City recognized as National and City-level architectural and artistic relics? (Tien Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City)
Reply:
In terms of advantages, in my opinion, the French colonial architectural relics in Ho Chi Minh City (national and city-level relics) are not ruins or relics. All of these outstanding structures are still existing and operating. In other words, these are living heritages, integrated into contemporary urban life. Therefore, this is a huge advantage.
Next, most of the monuments are located in the city center, providing easy access to attractive tourist spots.
The third advantage is that almost all works are managed by the state, so there are favorable conditions to implement solutions to preserve and promote the value of these relics.
To develop the potential of these relics, we need to study and apply management tools for heritage tourism exploitation. There have been many practical lessons in the world through 3 groups of tools.
First, we must come up with a solution to increase the number of tourists visiting the heritage site. To do this, we must calculate the scale and capacity to receive the maximum number of visitors to the site and then distribute the tourism functions in the heritage site. Next, we must create a tour guide map to welcome a reasonable number of visitors. Finally, we must count and forecast the number of visitors.
The second is to apply techniques to promote the value of the project. It is necessary to create a specific, detailed and attractive tour itinerary and explanation under many different scenarios to serve all groups of visitors. We must provide more support tools such as documents, interactive information pillars, virtual reality tour equipment, etc. Public service spaces in the relic such as refreshment areas and souvenir stalls also need more investment. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on developing night tours and artistic lighting because some locations such as the City People's Committee or the City Post Office have administrative and professional functions during the day, so the sightseeing areas are limited. Therefore, welcoming visitors at night will help increase the number of potential visitors to these works. It is necessary to organize more events, exhibitions and short-term cultural activities at the relic. From here, it is possible to attract the public to see and increase the value of the work.
Finally, communication and tourism promotion are very important to promote heritage values, linked with implemented activities.
