Receiving a rare red-faced monkey voluntarily handed over by local people

Today, July 3, the Quang Ninh Commune Police, Quang Tri Province received a rare wild animal, a red-faced monkey, voluntarily handed over by local people.

The person who handed it over was Mr. Le Van Tuan, born in 1965, residing in Quang Ninh commune, Quang Tri province. This red-faced monkey weighed about 9kg and had repeatedly invaded and damaged property at Mr. Tuan's house. Realizing that this was a wild animal that needed to be protected, Mr. Tuan proactively captured and handed it over to the authorities for handling in accordance with the law.

Immediately after receiving it, Quang Ninh Commune Police made a record and completed the procedures to hand over the red-faced monkey to Quang Ninh Forest Protection Department for further care and release into the natural environment.

The red-faced macaque, scientifically known as Macaca arctoides, belongs to Group IIB and is protected under Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government on Management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
