In the context of many socio-economic challenges, Lao Cai has identified healthcare as the top priority sector. The province has focused resources on developing the hospital system, equipment and human resources, creating a clear shift in people's healthcare.

Over the years, the work of medical care - health care for the people has always been directed by the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of the two previously merged provinces, now Lao Cai province. Under that direction, the work of protecting, caring for and improving the health of the people in Lao Cai has been implemented through many resolutions, projects, and specialized documents. Thanks to that, resources for health care have been increasingly strengthened, creating conditions to expand and upgrade the medical examination and treatment system.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the provincial People's Committee has invested in building new hospitals for the Muong Khuong, Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Bao Yen, Van Ban, and Sa Pa regions. Upgrading General Hospital No. 2 and Bao Thang General Hospital. Medical facilities in the province have been invested in purchasing equipment with a total cost of more than 1,630 billion VND.

In addition, the development of medical human resources has also been focused on in many forms such as: Linking training, retraining, fostering, and improving knowledge according to location; attracting high-quality doctors and medical staff; rotating staff to work at health stations to increase the quantity and quality of medical human resources for communes, especially in particularly difficult areas....

From 2021 to now, the whole province has attracted, supported, and trained nearly 1,320 high-quality health workers from college level and above, with a total budget of over 76.26 billion VND. To date, the whole province has reached 12.8 doctors/10,000 people and 40 hospital beds/10,000 people.

With synchronous efforts, Lao Cai's health system is increasingly being consolidated, creating an important foundation to improve the quality of health care for the people, contributing to the implementation of the province's sustainable development goals in the coming years.
