Supporting the development of intellectual property in enterprises

Establishing intellectual property rights contributes to improving the competitiveness, product value and position of enterprises in the market. For that reason, not only enterprises but also state management agencies are increasingly interested in supporting enterprises in protecting intellectual property. This combination helps enterprises improve product quality, maintain reputation; at the same time, helps consumers distinguish fake and poor quality goods on the market.

Active support

In November 2021, Can Tho City People's Committee issued Decision No. 3032/QD-UBND approving the Intellectual Property Development Program of Can Tho City until 2030. With the goal of creating a direct support mechanism from the State to localities, enterprises, organizations and individuals in building and developing intellectual property, the program opens up a new direction for units, making intellectual property a driving force to promote production, business and sustainable development in the city. Can Tho has synchronously and effectively implemented activities in accordance with the objectives identified in the program and recorded a number of results contributing to the overall development of intellectual property activities. Statistics on the number of applications and certificates of industrial property protection from January to May 2025 show that the city has 381 applications for protection (362 trademarks, 5 patents and 14 industrial designs) and 284 certificates (278 trademarks, 3 industrial designs and 3 patents) newly granted by the Department of Intellectual Property, reaching 135% compared to the socio -economic development target for 2025 of the City People's Committee (210 certificates).

The Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City continues to focus on implementing Resolution No. 03/2022/NQ-HDND dated July 8, 2022 of the City People's Council stipulating the level of support for intellectual property protection registration until 2030 in Can Tho City. Accordingly, domestic support: 30 million VND/application for protection for inventions and new plant varieties; 15 million VND/protection certificate for industrial designs and trademarks. Foreign support: 60 million VND/application for protection for inventions, industrial designs and trademarks; registration for protection and recognition of new plant varieties. The above support for domestic and foreign protection registration costs is assessed to be suitable to the actual situation in the locality in order to promote intellectual property protection in the city and enhance the competitiveness of the city's products and services.

In addition, the department also focuses on raising awareness of intellectual property; supporting local key products, exploiting and developing brands through projects: Propagating and disseminating knowledge about intellectual property and brand development; Building, exploiting and developing intellectual property values ​​for products under the OCOP Program; Developing Thoi Hung custard apple brand; Digital transformation in building and developing brands of some key agricultural products...

Increase value, create competitive advantage

According to experts, good registration of intellectual property rights will encourage research, technology development, and improve the quality of goods and products. In addition, good protection will also increase product value and limit intellectual property infringement. An effectively operating intellectual property system will promote innovation, commercialization of intellectual property, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality. In fact, many enterprises have succeeded thanks to the effective exploitation of intellectual property rights. Therefore, intellectual property rights are increasingly of interest to enterprises, production and business establishments; creating conditions to promote creative investment, research, development and innovation in the current process of international economic integration.

Ms. Doan Thi Hong Tham, Director of Hygie&Panacee LLC, said: “The company currently has 15 products from medicinal tea that have registered exclusive trademarks. All products and publications of the company use the registered logo and images. In the past, Hygie&Panacee has received a lot of support from management agencies, departments and branches through networking activities at events, support for registration costs from the Intellectual Property Development Program of Can Tho City... From the initial success, we are aiming to develop our products into local specialty brands. That means when mentioning Can Tho, we want domestic and foreign tourists to remember Hygie&Panacee medicinal tea. To do that, the company has made efforts and achieved 4-star OCOP certification to mark the regional characteristics of the product; participating in the vote and being certified as a high-quality Vietnamese product shows that consumers have remembered the product... These are the first steps and I hope the city government will continue to accompany and support businesses in the journey of building a local specialty brand for Hygie&Panacee medicinal tea."

According to experts, building and developing intellectual property in general and brand in particular does not stop at the name but also the feelings, trust and love of customers for the company's products. When the brand develops, users will easily recognize the product on the market and receive the product with a more responsive attitude. Mr. Tran Giang Khue, Head of the Southern Office, Department of Intellectual Property, shared: “A brand creates an image in the minds of consumers, creating a difference in competition, thereby not only creating a reputation, a valuable intangible asset for the owner but also creating prestige and position for the locality and the country. When successfully positioning a brand, a business can separate itself from the crowd, making it easy for consumers to recognize, choose and associate when hearing the brand name. In addition, brand positioning affirms the strengths, core benefits and the quintessence of the brand, expressing its outstanding difference compared to the products and services of competitors. This is also a way for businesses to always remember their own promises, be honest with themselves to always maintain the image and position that the business has identified and committed to customers”.
