Maximum savings, ensuring stable power supply in the Southern region

Decisive in saving electricity

Implementing the direction of the Government and Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) has requested power companies in 21 southern provinces and cities and affiliated functional units to thoroughly implement the work of ensuring safe and stable electricity supply.

Especially during the dry season, severe heat, drought and saltwater intrusion affect the power supply situation due to serious water shortages in hydroelectric reservoirs.

Coordinate with local state management agencies to implement solutions to maximize energy savings for public services that are not really necessary (such as public lighting, lighting of advertising signs along national highways, expressways, etc.).

At the same time, promote propaganda, mobilization and encouragement activities for customers, people and all social classes to increase electricity saving during the particularly difficult period of the electricity industry.

Representatives of the Southern electricity industry worked with the People's Committee of Dong Nam province on electricity supply in 2023 and the electricity saving program.

Together with EVN, EVNSPC has organized a working session with the People's Committees of 21/21 southern provinces and cities and all these localities have issued documents directing the promotion of electricity saving solutions at the local level, assigning departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities under the province, socio -political organizations, organizations, agencies, enterprises, electricity-using households... to urgently implement urgent measures to increase electricity saving, contributing to ensuring electricity supply right in the area.

Promote communication about the difficult electricity supply situation in 2023 so that organizations, agencies, businesses and people know, share difficulties and increase electricity saving practices.

Can Tho City People's Committee and the Electricity sector launched a peak campaign to save electricity in Can Tho City.

Thanks to efforts to implement electricity saving solutions and actively implement the voluntary load adjustment (DR) program for customers, from May 15 to June 4, in 21 southern provinces, about 4,568 customers voluntarily participated in the adjustment with a capacity reduction of nearly 869 MW, equivalent to a power saving of over 2,544 million kWh.

Regarding electricity saving work at headquarters, administrative agencies, public lighting areas, outdoor decorative advertising lighting and key energy-using facilities... during the above period, nearly 38 million kWh was saved.

Of which, the administrative and public service agencies saved 5.306 million kWh; public lighting areas saved nearly 6.723 million kWh; outdoor advertising and decoration lighting areas saved 4.617 million kWh; key energy-using facilities saved over 21.04 million kWh.

These savings levels are likely to increase in the coming time as customers and electricity users change their awareness and habits of using electricity economically.

Many manufacturing enterprises in the Southern provinces have adjusted their load to join the Electricity industry in increasing electricity savings.

Guide people to save electricity

Along with calling on local agencies, people and customers to actively participate in saving electricity, EVNSPC has issued guidelines to increase electricity saving such as: Limiting the use of many electrical devices at the same time during peak hours from 9:30-11:30 am and 17:00-20:00 pm; households should only use necessary devices and certified energy-saving devices.

EVNSPC encourages and recommends people to change their habits of using cooling devices to save electricity. Specifically, increasing the air conditioner temperature by 1 degree Celsius can save 2-3% of electricity.

Air conditioners are one of the most energy-consuming devices and account for a large proportion of electricity consumption in households. Therefore, the electricity industry recommends that people learn information and use air conditioners properly. They should be set at a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius or higher and used with a fan to cool the air in the room, and limit the use of multiple air conditioners at the same time in the house.

Agencies and headquarters of units in the Electricity industry actively save electricity.

For refrigerators, place them at least 10cm away from the wall in a cool place, away from heat sources. Make sure the temperature inside the refrigerator ranges from 3-6 degrees Celsius and minus 15 to minus 18 degrees Celsius in freezing mode. Avoid opening the refrigerator these days because every time you open it, the refrigerator encounters a stream of hot air, so it has to rebalance the set temperature. This consumes more electricity.

With washing machines, you should choose a washing mode suitable for the fabric material, the amount of laundry suitable for the machine's capacity, if you wash a small amount of clothes, you should choose a water level suitable for the amount of laundry.

Public lighting reduces power usage by 50%.

EVNSPC also recommends that customers should choose and use electrical equipment labeled as energy-saving according to regulations of the Ministry of Industry and Trade; regularly clean and maintain equipment to ensure stable and economical operation; and unplug electrical equipment when not in use.

For businesses, they should proactively switch to green energy, use equipment and machinery that consume less energy, use electricity during off-peak hours, etc.

The electricity industry also recommends that people actively use renewable energy sources to reduce electricity bills at high prices; at the same time, make the most of natural sunlight and ventilation to save electricity.
